
Women’s Tennis Upsets No. 55 FAU, 4-3

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Boston University women's tennis team defeated No. 55 FAU in a 4-3 upset on Sunday. After securing the doubles point, BU fought from behind to earn its first ranked win of the season.
BU grabbed its first doubles win at line three thanks to senior Victoria Carlsten and sophomore Nina Gulbransen who won 6-1. After FAU won at line one, senior Kaitlin Tan and sophomore Emily Zhao clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win at the No. 2 spot to give BU the advantage headed into singles.
Carlsten extended BU's lead to 2-0 with an efficient 6-3, 6-4 singles win at the top of the lineup. FAU responded with quick wins at the Nos. 5, 6 and 2 spots, respectively, to go up 3-2 in the match.
BU was unphased in its efforts as Zhao fought back after dropping her second set to secure her 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 win at line four. The final point of the match came down to freshman Uma Bakaityte at the No. 3 spot. The Terrier rookie was able to come back and win her match 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 to clinch the 4-3 victory for BU.
This is BU's first ranked win this season and first since defeating then-No. 49 Brown in 2023.
BU returns to the northeast to face Yale on Saturday. First serve in New Haven, Conn., is set for 1 p.m.
