AMESBURY, Mass. - Junior Mathieu Caron of the Boston University men's ice hockey team has been named Hockey East Goaltender of the Month, the league announced on Tuesday.
Caron was terrific for the Terriers last month, going 6-1-1 with a league-leading 2.01 goals-against average. No other netminder in the country won as many games as Caron did in February, and Caron was second in Hockey East (by a margin of 32 seconds) in minutes played at 478:09. Within conference play, Caron led his peers in both save percentage (.944) and goals-against average (1.53), and he closed the month in style with a 23-save shutout against UConn on Feb. 24.
A transfer from Brown, Caron has been outstanding in his first season at BU. He has started all 32 games for the Terriers, helping lead them to a 22-8-2 record and the second seed in the league playoffs. He leads all Hockey East netminders in minutes played (1918:17) and is second in the league with a .916 save percentage. Within league play, Caron ranks second with a .924 save percentage and a 2.19 goals-against average.
