Women's Tennis Concludes Season in Patriot League Championship Match

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Boston University women's tennis team concluded its season with a 4-3 loss to No. 2 seeded Navy in the Patriot League title match on Sunday. After dropping the doubles point, BU went up 3-2 in the match before Navy came back to win the remaining singles points.
Despite losing the doubles point, all three matches were closely contested. The Nos. 1 and 3 matches ended in a 6-4 result and the No. 2 match was abandoned at 6-6.
In singles, Navy pushed to a 2-0 lead before the Terriers got on the board. Freshman Uma Bakaityte secured BU's first point with a 6-3, 6-3 win at line two. She was quickly followed by fellow freshman Ellie Gyuro who, at line six, won 6-1, 6-0. BU earned its final singles point from senior Victoria Carlsten as she won 6-4, 7-5 at the top of the lineup after battling back from a second set deficit of 0-2.
Navy tied the match 3-3 when it picked up a win in three sets on Court 3. The final match, which played for over two hours on Court 4, came down to a final set tiebreaker. Sophomore Emily Zhao dropped her first set 6-2 but dominated in the second 6-1 to force the final set. Her Navy opponent battled back from behind to go up 5-4 before Zhao forced the tiebreak. Zhao was up 5-1 until Navy's Kate Lee found her footing to win 7-6 (6) and earn Navy the Patriot League title.
BU finishes the 2024 season 15-8 with a 5-0 regular season Patriot League record.
