WEST POINT, N.Y. – Highlighted by an impressive shooting performance and strong defensive effort, the Boston University men's basketball team completed the series sweep against Army West Point with an 85-68 victory at Christl Arena Wednesday night.
The Terriers (11-15, 6-7 PL) earned their first three-game win streak of the season by shooting 65.9+ percent from the field for the second time against the Black Knights (10-16, 4-9 PL), who were limited to 37.9 FG% in the contest. Army posted a 12-8 advantage in made 3-pointers but needed 20 more shot attempts to reach the mark, and BU made seven extra free throws to seal its first sweep in the series since the 2019-20 campaign.
Sophomore Ben Defty led all players with 24 points by shooting a near-perfect 9-for-10 in the paint, and freshman Chance Gladden claimed his second career double-double thanks to 14 points and 11 assists. Both junior Michael McNair (17 pts.) and freshman Donte Tisinger Jr. (13 pts.) scored in double figures, while sophomore Azmar Abdullah came up just short of a double-double with nine points and game-high seven rebounds.
Jacen Holloway led Army with 19 points off the bench and Jaxson Bell tallied 13 points, as the duo combined for 6-for-10 from behind the arc. After posting 24 points and eight assists in the Black Knights' 100-91 loss at BU back in January, Ryan Curry was held to just nine points on 3-for-12 shooting along with six assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bell started off the game with a 3-pointer, and Everson added another at 17:06 in response to Gladden's trey for Army's final lead of the game, 6-5.
- McNair then flushed a 3-pointer with the bonus free throw to put the Terriers ahead for good.
- After Curry came back with a layup, the Terriers scored eight straight for a 17-8 lead at 13:30 on Defty's layup set up by Tisinger.
- The Black Knights chipped away to pull within one at 10:27 (21-20) and at 9:25 (23-22).
- BU then went on a 16-4 run capped by Tisinger's layup at 1:36 for a 39-26 lead.
- Owner of a 40-29 halftime lead, the teams traded blows for much of the second half with BU slowly extending its lead to 59-43 on Abdullah's 3-pointer at 12:56.
- Army momentarily pulled within single-digits, 67-59, on a 3-pointer, but Abdullah flushed another trey on the following possession to put the lead at double-digits for the rest of the contest.
- Junior Quinn Nielsen hit two free throws at 1:33 for BU's largest lead of the game, 85-62.
- With 24 points, Defty delivered his third 20+ point performance of the season and came up just two shy of tying his current personal best while also increasing his field goal shooting percentage to a staggering 70.3 percent. Nick Havener ('18) owns the program record at 64.3 FG%.
- Gladden's two point-assist double-doubles are the most by a Terrier since 2013-14, and his now season total of 119 assists are the most by a BU freshman since 2012-13.
- With two 3-pointers, McNair increased his total to 83, two away from tying Corey Lowe's No. 3 program mark of 85 and nine away from Lowe's No. 2 high of 92.
- Now 25-20 all-time against Army, the Terriers snapped a three-game losing streak at Christl Arena with the last victory occurring in 2023.
- The 17-point margin of victory was BU's largest in the series since an 81-59 home win in 2020 and the largest ever on the road against Army. The 2019-20 squad was the last to win by double digits on the road in an 80-66 decision.
- BU has now swept two PL opponents this season after beating Lafayette twice and will have one more opportunity when the Terriers host Holy Cross on Feb. 25.
- BU will next return to Case Gym for two home games over a three-day stretch. The Terriers will first host Bucknell on Saturday (Feb. 14) at 1 p.m. and then Colgate on Monday (Feb. 16) with the CBS Sports Network broadcast set for a 6 p.m. start.
- Coincidentally, the Terriers fell on the road to both opponents in overtime.
- BU first came up just short at Colgate (80-79 OT) and then at Bucknell (103-97 2OT).
