Softball to Start Duke Invitational With the No. 20/23 Blue Devils Wednesday Afternoon

BOSTON – Concluding the extended season-opening road trip down South, the Boston University softball team will compete in four contests at the Duke Invitational.
To avoid weather delays, the Terriers' matchup against the Blue Devils was pushed up from Sunday to Wednesday for a 4 p.m. start time. BU will then next face Northwestern on both Friday (11 a.m.) and Saturday (10 a.m.) with the last contest taking place against Ohio State on Saturday at 3 p.m. All four programs reached the 2025 NCAA tournament.

- BU most recently went 2-3 at the Charlotte Invitational with splits against Marshall and Jacksonville that featured walk-off victories against both squads.
- Scheduled to compete in four games against Power 4 programs, the Terriers are currently 2-64 with wins on opening weekend against then-No. 16 Duke (2-1) and Maryland (3-0). The losses occurred the followed weekend against Louisville (3-0, 5-3) and then-No. 16/20 South Carolina (6-2, 6-1) during the Carolina Classic.
- Junior Kyomi Apalit (.389), reining Patriot League Rookie of the Week Irys Kline (.378) and senior Brooke Deppiesse (.362) are all batting over .300 with Kline owning a team-high 11 RBIs and Deppiesse touching home plate a team-high 10 times.
- Junior Kylie Doherty (.239) has delivered four of BU's seven homers so far and has 10 RBIs.
- In the circle, six Terriers have appeared in the circle with senior Kasey Ricard (4-5, 5.31 ERA) totaling 54 of the team's 88.1 innings pitched. She has 48 strikeouts so far, while classmate Haley Ganino (1-1, 8.50 ERA) and sophomore Danika Nell (0-2, 9.95 ERA) have combined for 14 strikeouts in 26.2 innings.
- Overall, BU is batting .280 and holding teams to .317 with opponents owning a 28-3 advantage in stolen bases.

- Coming off a 41-18 season, the 2025 NCAA regional finalist Blue Devils are currently 9-8 after dropping a 5-4 decision to East Carolina on Tuesday. They've earned notable victories over then-No. 8 Texas A&M (8-6) and No. 12 LSU (5-3).
- D'Auna Jennings leads Duke batting .517 with Aminah Vega (.509 avg.) close behind. Tyrina Jones (.436) owns a team-high six homers and 26 RBIs.
- In the circle, all four pitchers to have appeared in the circle have tallied between 23.2-32.0 innings pitched and combined for 81 strikeouts in 107.2 innings while holding opponents to .289 batting average.
- BU is 2-1 all-time in the series with a 7-4 (8) win back in 2018 and most recently a 2-1 victory back on Feb. 6 during UCF's Black & Gold Classic. The Blue Devils earned a 4-2 victory at home in 2024.
- Coming off a 30-21-1 season that included an NCAA regional appearance, the Wildcats own notable wins over Missouri (3-0), Memphis (14-5, 5 inn.) and Texas State (7-1). alongside a 6-5 loss to then-No. 8 Texas A&M.
- Kelsey Nadar (.391) leads Northwestern batting .391 with 11 runs scored. Kaylie Avvisato (.341) owns a team-high 16 RBIs and is tied with Emma Raye (.366) at three homers apiece.
- All five Wildcats with at least one appearance in the circle have pitched at least 10.1 innings. Marina Mason (2-4, 2.44 ERA) leads the team with 35 strikeouts in 28.2 innings of work and along with Signe Dohse (1-1, 0.64 ERA) has held opposing batters to around .220 average.
- BU is 0-2 all-time in the series with a 5-0 loss in 2013 and 2-0 defeat back in 2024 at a tournament hosted by South Carolina.
- Coming off a 45-14-1 season, the 2025 NCAA regional finalist Buckeyes are currently 6-7 after competing last weekend at then-No. 21 Virginia with two losses to the Cavaliers and a split against Delaware. OSU has run-ruled two Northeast programs in Syracuse (9-0, 6 inn.) and Army West Point (11-0, 5 inn.).
- Abbie Wilhelm leads the Buckeyes batting .439 with five homers, four doubles, 12 runs scored and 13 RBIs with Skylar Limon (.379) and Hailey Lang (.353) combining for four homers and 17 RBIs.
- OSU has relied on just three pitchers so far. Jenna Molk (3-3, 3.88 ERA) has totaled 23 strikeouts in 30.2 innings of work while holding opponents to .239 batting average.
- BU is 0-2 in the series after coming up just short in 2018 (3-2, 8 inn.) and in 2005 (13-10) with both contests taking place down South.
- The Terriers will return to New England to face Yale and New Haven two times apiece on March 7-8 with the Bulldogs serving as hosts.
- BU leads the all-time series against Yale, 16-8, and will visit the Bulldogs for the first time since 1995.
- BU will face New Haven, member of the Northeast Conference, for the first time.
