Softball to Open Patriot League Play at Lafayette in Weekend Series

BOSTON – Riding a 13-game win streak, the Boston University softball team will open Patriot League play at Lafayette with a doubleheader slated for Saturday and the third matchup set for Sunday. Both days will feature a 12 p.m. start time.

TERRIER TIDBITS

BU ranks in the top 100 nationally in 21 categories, including 22nd in hits earned (264), 45th in batting average (.329), and 48th in scoring (6.7 runs per game) on the offensive end. In the circle, the pitching staff has recorded eight shutouts, 11th most nationally, along with the No. 32 best strikeout-to-walk ratio at 2.33 per game.
Junior Kylie Doherty (.337 avg.) is one of eight Terriers earning at least 19 starts with a .295 or better batting average. Owner of a team-high 36 RBIs, she has totaled a team-high 11 homers to push her career total to 31, one away from tying the program record.
Freshman Irys Kline leads BU batting .393 with seven doubles, two triples and two homers along with 20 walks for a .528 on-base percentage.
Both junior Kyomi Apalit (.390) and senior Brooke Deppiesse (.378) are also hitting over .300.
In the circle, senior Kasey Ricard (14-5, 3.32 ERA) has totaled 88 career victories, a BU program record that is six away from tying the PL record. She has earned 118 strikeouts over 114.0 innings of work.
Senior Haley Ganino (6-1, 2.98 ERA) recorded her first career solo shutout on Wednesday against Stonehill and has tallied 16 strikeouts over 44.2 innings.
BU is batting .328 and holding teams to .268 with a 73-51 advantage in extra-base hits and 122-66 lead in walks earned at the plate. Opponents lead the Terriers in stolen bases, 34-12.

SCOUTING LAFAYETTE

The 7-19 Leopards have already matched last year's win total from a 7-31 campaign with wins against North Dakota State (2x), Georgetown (2x), Longwood, East Tennessee State and New Haven.
Kylee Sweet (.351 avg.), Caroline Hall (.325) and Katie Harrington (.291) lead the Lafayette offense combining for eight homers, 14 doubles, 33 runs scored and 37 RBIs.
Lafayette has had six Leopards start at least two games in the circle with Parker Rowden (4-1, 3.61 ERA) tallying 13 strikeouts over 33.0 innings of work.
Both Sophia Alvarez-Backus (1-6, 4.99 ERA) and Jordan Goedel (1-5, 8.05 ERA) have also pitched 33.0+ innings.
Lafayette is batting .234 and holding teams to .330 with opponents owning a 59-39 advantage in extra-base hits alongside a 37-14 lead in stolen bases.

SERIES HISTORY

The Terriers have won all 34 meetings, including a series sweep at home last season by a combined score of 19-1 with one run-rule victory (9-1)..
Back in 2024, BU swept the weekend series at Lafayette by a combined score of 28-1 with pair of run-rule decisions.
In 2023, the Terriers won two games by a combined three runs.
BU held on in 2017 for a 1-0 win at Lafayette in an 11-inning pitcher's duel.

LOOKING AHEAD

The Terriers will return home to host defending Big East champion UConn on Wednesday (March 25) with a 3 p.m. start time.
BU leads the all-time series, 15-8, having won the last eight contests with two of the previous three being decided by one run apiece.
The Huskies will visit BU for the first time since the Terriers pulled out a 1-0 victory in 2023.
