Arthur Dorfman, a former Boston University football center
named to the Boston Post All-Time B.U. football team, played
football at B.U. on the 1925-28 teams under coaches Doc Whelan
('25) and Reggie Brown ('26-'28), being elected captain of
the 1928 team.
A clipping from the Boston Post best describes Dorfman's
football career at B.U. "Another member of that team
which included the 1926 victory over Holy Cross in their laurels,
was Arthur Dorfman. Old Terrier fans claim that B.U. never
had a center like Dorfman, and some insist that there will
never be at the in town institution. Dorfman, a 210-pounder,
was big, fast, and a roamer. He roamed all over the field,
was a deadly tackler, a great blocker, and a fine all-round
lineman. He later played professional football (Buffalo Bisons-NFL).
During the three years that B.U. had (Chauncy) French, and
(Jimmy) Dincolo the guards and Dorfman at center, not a single
touchdown was scored on the Terriers through the center of
the line, which is quite a record considering the fact that
a lot of scoring was done on B.U. in those days."
Following graduation from B.U. in 1928, Art played a year
of professional football at Buffalo, then two years of semi-pro
in New England, before turning in his pads for a post with
the Stop and Shop Super Market chain in 1930.
