Considered by many to be one of the finest defensemen to
ever play hockey at Boston University, Richie Green's career
was cut short in his junior year when he suffered an injury
at the University's Sargent Gym.
Even so, he had already made his mark during that shortened
1964 season. When the season began, he was voted co-captain
and by the time it ended, he had been named the Most Valuable
Player in the Beanpot and was a First Team All-American. In
addition, he won the Walter Brown Award as the outstanding
player in New England and won the Gordon "Mickey"
Cochrane Award as the University's Athlete of the Year.
The year before, as a sophomore, he was an All-East selection.
Green went on to coach at his alma mater, the New England
Whalers and Colby College.
A native of Watertown (MA), where he was the MVP of hockey,
football, and baseball.
