In the mid-Seventies, Boston University's hockey team dominated
Eastern hockey. The Terriers won the ECAC five years out of
six and owned the championship trophy from 1974-1977. One
of the key players in that stretch was Rick Meagher.
Meagher, a center from Belleville, Ontario, was one of the
most decorated hockey players ever to wear the Scarlet and
White. His name appeared on numerous All-Star teams and Most
Valuable Player trophies.
A co-captain his senior year with Mike Eruzione, Meagher
was a three-time All-American and tallied 210 points (90 goals,
120 assists) during his B.U. career.
As for All-Star teams, Meagher was on the All-East team each
of his four years, the All-New England team his sophomore
and senior years and in 1977 he was picked for the NCAA All-Tournament
team.
Meagher also has a fine collection of MVP trophies. He was
the Terriers' MVP in 1977 and the Most Valuable Forward in
New England in 1977.
Selected to the ECAC All-Decade team, Meagher was the male
Athlete of the Year at Boston University in 1977, winning
the Mickey Cochrane Award.
Meagher was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens and played
in the National Hockey league until 1992.
