Following the lead of her male counterparts who had thrust Boston University track into the spotlight 10 years earlier, Julie White played a big part in helping bring the Terrier's women's track program into national prominence in the early 80s.
Hailing from Brampton, Ontario, Julie wasted no time in making an impact on the Terrier track scene, In her first meet, she set a New England women's collegiate record in the high jump and established a school record in the long jump.
Her finest year as a Terrier came in 1982, when she took first place in the pentathlon at the AIAW National Indoor Track and Field Championships in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Julie won the event with a meet-record 4,268 points.. She thus became Boston Universty's first female national champion, and earned All-America honors.
Indoors, she also won Greater Boston and New England championships in three events - the 55-meter hurdles, the long jump and the high jump. At the New England meet, Julie also ran a led on the gold-metal winning 1600-meter relay team to help the Terriers to their third consecutive team title.
During the outdoor season that same year, Julie won three Greater Boston Championships and two New England crowns. Not surprisingly, Julie was named the MVP of of the 1981-82 women's track team. She also received the prestigious Mildred Barnes Award as the University's top female athlete.
On top of her feats with the Scarlet and White, Julie proudly competed for Canada in the Montreal Olympic Games in 1976. There, as a 16-year-old, she finished sixth in the high jump. She also participated in the Pan-American Games and the Commonwealth Games.
