BOSTON – The Boston University men's soccer team showed a spark on both ends of the pitch on Tuesday evening, playing to a scoreless draw against No. 13 Vermont at Nickerson Field.

The Terriers outshot the 2024 NCAA D1 national champions 13-5 while forcing Vermont goalkeeper Niklas Herceg to make five saves.

Senior goalkeeper Ben Alexander recorded his second consecutive clean sheet, which marks the seventh of his career and his third at BU. Seniors Andrea Di Blasio and Keke Abai led the team in shots with two apiece with both of Abai's being on goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Vermont's Halim Bangura fired off the first shot of the evening in the sixth minute, which went high.
In the 12th minute, Di Blasio took a shot that went wide for BU's first of the game. In the following minute, Herceg made his first save off a shot by Abai. Freshman Guillem Vila Ametller fired off another shot seconds later that went wide.
Vila Ametller was assessed a yellow card in the 15th minute.
Abai went for his second shot of the night in the 18th minute, resulting in another save for the Catamounts. 11 seconds later, Di Blasio launched a shot off the post.
At the 24' mark, freshman Kaelen Kunar shot wide and to the left.
Vermont attempted its second shot of the night in the 27th minute when David Ismail missed high. In the following minute, Ismail attempted to put Vermont on the board once again with a shot that was saved.
The Catamounts tried once more to get the advantage before halftime, as Alexander saved a shot from Gabriel Chavez aimed for the low center of the net.
At the 49' mark, junior Louis Crofts took BU's first shot of the second half, giving Vermont its third save of the night.
The Terriers fired off their second shot of the half in the 52nd minute, a shot aimed for the low center by sophomore Anthony Harper, which was saved. In the 55th minute, sophomore Hayes Benzan missed a shot high and wide.
At the 64-minute mark, senior Lapo Romieri gave BU a close scoring opportunity with a shot that barely skimmed the top of the crossbar.
Alexander made his first save of the half in the 68th minute off a shot straight up the middle by Ismail.
A yellow card was assessed to Vermont's Luis Fischer in the 72nd minute, before freshman Jacob Kobane fired a shot aimed for the top center of the net, which was saved.
Freshman Ryan Ghajar had BU's final attempt to take the lead when he fired off a shot that was blocked in the 90th minute.

STATS

BU outshot Vermont 13-5 and had a 5-3 edge in shots on goal.
The Terriers took seven corners to the Catamounts' four.
Vermont had three yellow cards to BU's one and 14 fouls to BU's 10.

GAME NOTES

Alexander and Harper each totaled 90 minutes on the pitch. This marks Harper's fourth consecutive game where he's played the full 90 minutes, while Alexander has seen every minute on the pitch this season.
This marks BU's first tie with Vermont since Oct. 10, 2012, when the pair played to a scoreless draw that went into double overtime at Nickerson Field.
With the scoreless decision, this becomes the 10th tie in series history.
