BOSTON – The Boston University men's soccer team moved to 3-0 in Patriot League play and remain undefeated at Nickerson Field following a 5-0 victory over Bucknell on Monday afternoon.

The bulk of BU's goals came in the first half, beginning when junior forward Dylan Williams found the back of the net off an assist by freshman defender Guillem Vila Ametller. Senior forward Andrea Di Blasio scored off a penalty kick, then senior forward Lapo Romieri brought the score to 3-0 heading into halftime off an assist by junior midfielder Pharis Petrica.

Bucknell added onto BU's lead with an own goal in the second half, having a shot by Romieri deflect off a defenders' leg and into the net. Sophomore midfielder Sebastian Otero sealed the 5-0 victory by regaining possession off a penalty kick and firing the game winner into the goal.

This victory marks the Terriers' fourth consecutive win and their largest margin of victory against Bucknell, dating back to their first meeting in 2013.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Bucknell junior Drew Roskos took the first shot of the game at the 4' mark, which went wide to the left.
In the fifth minute, Williams took BU's first shot of the day, forcing Bucknell goalkeeper Thomas Yerbury to make his first save. Five minutes later, Williams ripped another shot which was blocked by a Bucknell defender, setting up a corner kick for the Terriers.
Vila Ametller momentarily gained possession off the corner kick, passing the ball to Williams who flicked the ball into the net to put BU up by one in the 11^th minute.
Bucknell's Mason Lillis tried to even the score with a shot in the 13^th minute that went wide.
Di Blasio attempted to extend BU's lead in the 14^th minute with a shot that got saved, which was then followed by a blocked shot from senior forward Keke Abai.
BU maintained pressure on the offensive side of the pitch, as Williams and junior midfielder Pharis Petrica each fired off shots in the 25^th minute, which got blocked by Bucknell defenders.
Bucknell's Collin Sullivan took another opportunity to put his team on the board with a shot that missed wide in the 30^th minute. In the 33^rd minute, Bucknell's Kiko Hidalgo took a shot that went high.
In the 40^th minute, Di Blasio fired off a penalty kick, which deflected off the right goal post and into the net to put the Terriers up by two. Bucknell's Cade Whitmire attempted to lessen the lead with a shot that missed to the left in the following minute.
Petrica connected with Romieri in the 44^th minute for his second goal of the season, putting BU up by three just moments before halftime.
Sullivan was assessed a yellow card in the 45^th minute.
Williams opened second half action with a shot that was blocked in the 46^th minute.
Bucknell's Roskos gave the Bison a great scoring opportunity with a header aimed for the top of the net, but instead senior goalkeeper Ben Alexander made his first save of the game.
Yerbury recorded another save in the 58^th minute off a shot from junior forward Ben Bagshaw.
Bucknell's Jack Heintz was assessed a yellow card in the 59^th minute.
In the 61^st minute, Alexander made his second save of the afternoon off a shot by Bucknell's Nate Coughlin.
Vila Ametller was given a yellow card in the 60^th minute.
Di Blasio dribbled the ball over to Romieri who shot the ball towards the far-left side of the net. The shot deflected off a Bucknell defender's leg to bring the score to 4-0 in the 72^nd minute.
Bagshaw forced Yerbury to make another save in the 77^th minute, then drew a foul from Yerbury to set up a penalty kick for the Terriers.
Sophomore midfielder Sebastian Otero took the penalty kick for the Terriers, which Yerbury punched away before Otero regained possession and pocketed the ball into the net for the game winning goal.
Otero took one final shot in the 89^th minute before the Terriers secured the 5-0 win.

STATS

The Terriers outshot the Bison 20-9 and had nine shots on goal to the Bison's two.
Alexander recorded two saves while Yerbury made five on the afternoon.
Bucknell took four corners to BU's three.

GAME NOTES

The Terriers are now 7-3-6 in all-time series against the Bison with a 5-2-2 record at home.
This marks BU's first 5-0 win since Oct. 21, 2006, when the Terriers recorded a clean sheet at Maine. Additionally, this is the first time the Terriers have beaten an opponent 5-0 at Nickerson Field since Sept. 13, 1998, when they defeated Rhode Island.
