The offensive heroics of Lisa Barone enabled the 1991 Boston University field hockey team to overcome a slow start, and advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals.
Following consecutive losses to national powers North Carolina, Syracuse, Iowa, and Old Dominion, the Terriers rallied to post an 11-2-1 mark over their final 14 regular-season games. Barone, who tallied at least one point in nine of those contests, paced the offense with a team-leading 16 points during this stretch.
The Terriers proceeded to knock off Vermont and Northeastern to capture their first America East Tournament title in program history. Advancing to the NCAA Tournament, the club downed cross-town rival Harvard to extend its unbeaten streak to 11 games.
Despite being eliminated at Penn State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, the Terriers concluded the year ranked eighth nationally with an overall record of 14-7-1.
Barone, who led the team with eight goals and 23 points, received Second Team All-America and First Team All-Region honors. In addition, she received First Team All-Conference, All-Conference Tournament Team, and All-Conference Academic recognition.
Her stellar senior year was indicative of her entire career, in which she helped the club register a four-year mark of 48-25-5 (.647). As a sophomore, she was the third-leading scorer on a team that posted a 13-4-2 mark, advanced to the NCAA Tournament and was ranked ninth nationally. As a junior, she earned Second Team All-Region honors after finishing second on the team with 27 points.
Barone finished her career with totals of 27 goals scored and 68 points.
