BOSTON (October 4) - Boston University sophomore forward Jane Rogers (Watertown, MA/Watertown HS) has been named America East Field Hockey Player of the Week for the week ending October 2.
Rogers led Boston University's (8-2, 4-0 America East) offensive attack in a 2-1 week with five goals and three assists. She tallied a career-high six points (2g-2a) in an 11-0 conference win over Vermont on Wednesday, September 29. Rogers also added a goal in a 6-5 loss at No. 6 Old Dominion and five points (2g-1a) in the Terriers 5-3 yesterday vs. Richmond.
Rogers, a transfer from Northeastern University, was honored by the conference earlier this season by being named America East Rookie of the Week for the week ending September 6.
Through 10 games, Rogers is tied for second place in the America East conference in scoring with seven goals and five assists for 19 points for a 1.90 PPG average. Teammate Danielle DeCoste (Fall River, MA) is tied with Rogers for second place honors with six goals and seven assists. Rogers is also second statistically in individual goals scored (7). New Hampshire's Kristine Iarrusso leads the conference with 10.
Sally Starr's speedy forward has notched at least one point in seven of 10 games this season. She has registered two mulit-goal games this season (9/29 vs. Vermont) and (10/3 vs. Richmond).
A former standout field hockey player at Watertown H.S., Rogers led Watertown to the 1997 Division II state title and was named 1997 Boston Globe All-Scholastic Player of the Year. Her 129 career goals at Watertown rank her first in the all-time record books for the state of Massachusetts.
Rogers and the rest of the Terriers will play host in seven of the team's final 10 games beginning with Massachusetts of Wednesday, October 6 at 7 p.m.
