Boston University/Ohio State Series Tonight is the first meeting between the two schools.
Terriers against the Big Ten Conference Boston University is 2-7 all-time versus the Big Ten Conference... The Terriers have wins against Penn State and Purdue...The last time B.U. defeated a member of the Big Ten Conference came on December 29, 1983, a 61-45 decision over Purdue at the Pabst Holiday Classic in Kingston, RI.
Recapping Maine - Saturday, December 11, 1999 AUGUSTA, ME-The Terrier women's basketball team, outscored 12-5 over the final 5:24 of the game, dropped a hard-fought 53-46 decision to host University of Maine in America East action last Saturday...The loss dropped B.U.'s record to 3-5 overall and 1-1 in the league, while the Black Bears are 2-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play... The highly-partisan crowd of 4500 jammed the Augusta (ME) Civic Center expecting to see the Black Bears roll over the much younger Terrier team...That's not what happened, though, as the Terriers led by a point at the half, 22-21, and led by as many as four in the second half, 35-31, with 12:27 to play... Maine came back behind a three-point basket by Amy Vachon, who finished the game with 11 points and 7 assists, and a free throw by Jamie Cassidy, a team-high 15 points and 9 rebounds, to tie the game, 35-35, with 9:04 left in the game... For the next 5:23, the Terriers and Black Bears played nip-and-tuck basketball as no more than two points separated the two teams. Then, with just 3:41 showing on the clock, Vachon made a three-pointer to stake Maine to a 46-43 lead.
They would never trail after that. In fact, the score was never tied after that point as the Black Bears continued to build on their lead with their largest bulge being seven points, which was the final score... The cold spell down the stretch along with turnovers proved costly for B.U.... Sophomore Anne Nelson (Blue Bell, PA) made a jumper to tie the game, 41-41, with 5:24 to play in the game. From then until the final buzzer, the Terriers did not make a basket and had to settle for free throws to account for their final points. Nelson made three of the free throws, while sophomore Jen Tulley (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) made two. Also, during this stretch, the Terriers committed three of their game-total 24 turnovers... In the meantime, Maine sunk a pair of three-pointers, two two-pointers, and two free throws to account for its final 12 points, while they turned the ball over just once, and that came with just seven seconds to play in the game. In all, the Black Bears turned the ball over 14 times in the game... Alison Dixon , who played 38 minutes and had her second consecutive double-double as she led the team in both scoring with 18 points and rebounding with 13, 11 of which were on the defensive boards...Nelson added 11 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals in 33 minutes... The game was also billed as the return to Maine by B.U. assistant coach Cindy Blodgett. A 1998 graduate of the University of Maine, Blodgett led the Black Bears to four straight America East titles and four berths into the NCAA Tournament. During her collegiate career, she set 18 school records including scoring with 3005 points in 118 games for an average of 25.5 ppg. The point total currently ranks as the fifth-highest career total in NCAA Division 1 history...The Terriers did just that in the first half, especially defensively as they held the Black Bears to just 8-of-29 from the field for a meager 27.6 percent. In the meantime, B.U. was 10-of-25 for 40.0 percent as they took a 22-21 lead into intermission. During those first 20 minutes, the Terriers led by as many as nine points, 12-3 with 12:52 to play in the half. Most of the damage was done by Dixon, who 10 of her 18 points in the first half...The Terriers also outshot Maine in the second half, 9-of-22 for 40.4 percent to 10-of-27 for 37.0 percent... The difference came down to making the plays late in the game.
Dixon On Fast Track To 1000 With 18 points at Maine last Saturday, Alison Dixon now has 947 points to move into 12th place on the Terriers' all-time scoring list... Next up on the list is the 1000 point plateau...Mary O'Connor (84) and Alicia Charles (98) - are 10th and 11th, respectively with 1,029 career points... Dixon should become the second fastest to reach the 1000 point plateau... Debbie Miller (81) reached 1000 points in 54 games, Dixon is playing in her 63rd tonight... Jill Sosnak (95), who is currently the second fastest to reach 1000 did in the 70th game.
Iron Women Three of Boston University's five starters, Alison Dixon, Dia Dufault and Alison Argentieri are averaging more than 30 minutes of action this season... Argentieri leads the way, averaging 36.5 mpg, followed by Dixon, 36.0 mpg, and Dufault, 30.1 mpg.
Tulley Nets Career-High Last Thursday at New Hampshire, sophomore guard Jen Tulley scored a career-high 24 points on nine-of-15 shooting in the Terriers' America East opener... Tulley's 24 points were the second most scored by a Terrier this season, (sophomore Dia Dufault had 25 versus Colgate in the season-opener) and most by a Terrier in an America East conference game since February 19, 1998, when Alison Dixon netted 25 against Towson... Tulley is third on the team in scoring, 10.5 ppg.

Longest Road Trip In Program History The Boston University women's basketball program is in the middle of a nine-game road trip...The trip began on Tuesday, November 23 as the Terriers defeated Harvard, 75-67, in Cambridge... The longest previous road trip occurred during the 1977-78 season, when B.U. played five games in an eight-game span... Head coach Margaret McKeon's first America East game at New Hampshire was a success as B.U. downed UNH, 61-59 in overtime... Last Saturday, Terrier assistant coach Cindy Blodgett returned to Maine, but the Black Bears prevailed 53-46... After tonight's game with Ohio State, B.U. will close out the 20th century and its road trip playing at Wagner College in Staten Island, NY on December 29.

At Harvard on November 23, Dufault netted 15 points, grabbed five rebounds, and had a career-high five steals, in B.U.'s 75-67 win.
There's More Than One Alison On This Team Freshman point guard Alison Argentieri is quickly establishing her own identity for the Terriers... B.U. already had one Alison in Dixon, but Argentieri is certainly letting opponents know that there is more than one Alison on this team... Argentieri is leading the Terriers in minutes played (36.5 mpg), assists (47, 5.8 apg), and steals (18, 2.6 spg)... At Harvard, on November 23, Argentieri scored a career-high 21 points in leading B.U. to a 75-67 victory over the Crimson... Argentieri was 6-of-8 from the floor, 4-of-5 from three-point land, and made 5-of-6 from the free-throw line in the final :40.
Defense...Defense In their last two games, the Terriers have allowed opponents to only a 32.5 % field goal percentage... At New Hampshire, the Wildcats were 19-of-54 for 35.1 %, while at Maine, the Black Bears were18-of-56 for 32.1 %... Through eight games, B.U. opponents are shooting 183-of-462 for 39.1 %
