Wildcats Down Terriers In Consolation Game Of Davidson Roundball Invitational

Davidson, NC (Dec 5) - Davidson College senior guard Jen O'Brien converted three-of-four free-throws in the final :14 seconds to stave off a fierce comeback by the Boston University Terriers, 61-57, before 379 at Belk Arena this afternoon.
O'Brien, who led all scorers with 25 points on 9-of-17 shooting, also had nine assists and eight rebounds on the day.
The Terriers (2-4) trailed, 33-24, at halftime and trailed as much as 11, 35-24, with 19:27 to play. B.U. sophomore guard Jennifer Tulley (Old Orchard Beach, ME) connected on a three-pointer at 15:23 to cut the Davidson lead to 40-37.
Two minutes later, Terrier freshman forward Rachel Werner (Glendale, Arizona) connected on a conventional three-point play at 12:20 to tie the game at 40-40.
The Wildcats maintained the lead the rest of the way and built a 10-point advantage, 56-46, with 4:22 before B.U. sophomore forward Anne Nelson (Blue Bell, PA) hit a layup and freshman guard Alison Argentieri (Hornell, NY) swished two three-pointers to pull the Terriers within four, 58-54, with :57 seconds to play.
B.U. managed to pull within one, 58-57, on a three-pointer by Dia Dufault (Malone, NY), but O'Brien's free-throws down the stretch held off the fiesty Terriers.
Dufault led three Terriers in double-figures with 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Argentieri and Werner added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Terriers were plagued by 27 turnovers and were outrebounded, 37-33.
B.U., which came into the tournament shooting 79.4 % from the free-throw line, shot just 14-of-28 (50%) from the line in the two games.
The Terriers have now dropped four straight after winning its first two games of the 1999-2000 season.
Today's game with the Davidson College Wildcats was the first-ever between the two schools and the first time that B.U. has played an opponent from the Southern Conference.
With six points today, junior forward Alison Dixon (Norwood, MA) moved past Lynne Ranando ('90) - 908, and Kelly Jo Gallagher ('98) - 909 into 14th place on the Terriers' all-time scoring list.
B.U., playing in its second consecutive in-season tournament, are now 31-39 in in-season tourneys.

A few highlights from the Davidson Roundball Invitational, include:
Freshman Rachel Werner (Glendale, Arizona) who registered career-high's in both points (17) and rebounds (7) in Saturday's, 59-52 loss
Sophomore forward Dia Dufault (Malone, NY) collected a career-high 11 rebounds on Saturday.
Junior Alison Dixon (Norwood, MA) moved into 14th place on the Terriers' all-time scoring list with 910 points.
Head coach Margaret McKeon's squad continues its nine-game road trip on Thursday, December 9, when the Terriers open the 1999-2000 America East conference portion of its schedule at New Hampshire at 7 p.m. Next Saturday, December 9 at 2 p.m., B.U. goes head-to-head with Maine at the Augusta Civic Center in Augusta, ME.
