Field Hockey At No. 17 In Latest STX/NFHCA Poll

BOSTON, MA (Oct. 17, 2000) -- The Boston University field hockey team, despite a 2-1 week, falls two spots to No. 17 in this week's STX/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll released October 17. Old Dominion University, at 15-1, captured the top spot from Maryland, which fell to number three. The Terriers won their 10th game of the season on Sunday, October 15, the 14th-straight season under Sally Starr the team has posted at least 10 wins.
Sally Starr's team (10-6, 5-2 America East) began its week with a hard-fought, double-overtime loss to New Hamshire, 2-1, on October 11. The Wildcats netted the game-winner with only 26 seconds left in the second overtime. Junior midfielder Felicia Cappabianca scored for the Terriers, her third goal in five games.
B.U. then traveled to Providence College for its last regular-season road game of the season on October 14, and rebounded with a 3-1 win. Kelly Clothier, Casey Holman and Whitney Peabody each scored first half goals for the Terriers, who allowed only four Friar shots at Susan Harrington all game. It was the first collegiate goal for Peabody, a freshman forward from Hamilton, MA.
The Terriers returned home after a five-game road swing to face Dartmouth on October 15 and won their second-straight, 3-1 over the Big Green. Junior forward Jane Rogers scored the game-winner early in the second half and also picked up a pair of assists for a four-point afternoon. Peabody scored her second goal in as many games as well for B.U., which closes out the regular season with four more home games starting with Rhode Island on Wednesday, October 18.
Rogers now leads the Terriers in scoring with 5-6-16 in 16 games. Senior midfielder Robyn Kenney and senior forward Kate Cusick are tied for second on the team with 5-3-13. Holman is the fourth Terrier with five goals on the season, and is 5-0-10 in 16 games. Cusick is currently in 11th place on the all-time scoring list with 62 points. She has 25-12-62 for her career. Rogers moved into a tie for 14th place on the all-time list with Jessica Alcorta '00 with 50 points. Rogers has 19-12-50 in 38 career games.
Junior goalkeeper Susan Harrington is currently third in the America East Conference with a 1.72 goals against average. She has played all 1181:24 of the Terriers' season and has posted the second-highest win total in the conference with 10. Drexel's Heather Haigh has the most wins, 11. Rogers is 12th in the conference, averaging 1.0 points per game. The Terriers have allowed the second-fewest goals in the conference, 29. Northeastern has allowed 28. Harrington is now 14-8 in her Terrier career.
The Terriers have outscored opponents 35-29 in 2000, 17-9 in conference games. The Terriers are outshooting opponents, 255-199 but trail in penalty corners, 120-119.
