Terrier Field Hockey Defeats Drexel, 2-1

Junior midfielder Felicia Cappabianca (North Caldwell, NJ) deflected Kerry Carney's penalty corner shot past Heather Haigh with 9:05 left in regulation to break a 1-1 tie and lift the Terriers to their eighth win of the season. Cappabianca, who was moved from forward to midfield and has been a solid defender all season, added an assist to finish with a three-point afternoon.
For the fourth time in five games, the Terriers surrendered the opening goal of the contest, as Kristina Backenstose broke a scoreless tie on a penalty corner with 7:37 left in the first half to give the Dragons a 1-0 lead. Pamie Zukowski picked up an assist on the play.
The Terriers answered quickly in the second half.
Senior midfielder Robyn Kenney (Whitehouse Station, NJ) scored on a broken penalty corner play 3:03 into the second half, netting her fifth goal on the season to tie the score at 1-1. It was Kenney's 12th point on the season, a career-high. She had 10 points as a junior, playing mainly a defensive role. Cappabianca earned as assist on the play, her first of the season.
The game was evenly matched in the stat column. B.U. outshot Drexel, 11-10, while both schools had eight penalty corners in the game. Goalkeeper Susan Harrington (Tuftonboro, NH) stopped eight shots for the Terriers, six in the opening half. Haigh had five saves for the Dragons.
The Terriers are now 10-0 all-time against Drexel.
B.U. returns to action on Sunday, October 8 at 1 p.m. in Hempstead, NY against Hofstra. The Terriers are 5-0 lifetime against the Lady Dutch, including a 5-0 win at home last season. Junior forward Jane Rogers scored a hat trick for the Terriers in that game.
