Field Hockey Shut Out By Hofstra, 3-0

HEMPSTEAD, NY (Oct. 8) - The Boston University field hockey team, ranked 14th in the country, had its' 15-game America East winning streak ended on Oct. 8 as it lost to Hofstra University, 3-0 at Hofstra Stadium. The Terriers last lost to a conference opponent on November 6, 1998, a 3-2 loss to New Hampshire in the America East Tournament.
The game was scoreless for 57:25 of play before Jennifer Swett got the Lady Dutch on the board with a goal with 12:35 left in regulation on an assist from Tricia-Ann Greaves. Tara Sterlacci and Greaves added late goals, the latter coming on a penalty corner with 2:18 to play, to close out the scoring. Greaves and Swett each finished with three points on the day.
Junior Susan Harrington (Tuftonboro, NH) recorded six saves in the cage for the Terriers, who fall to 8-5, 5-1 in the conference. Christine Hickey recorded seven saves to post the shutout for Hofstra, which improves to 6-8, 3-2. The Lady Dutch were coming off a 2-1 win over No. 11 Northeastern University on Friday night. It is the first time Hofstra has beaten the Terriers in six tries.
The Terriers managed seven shots at the cage, five in the first half. Junior Rachael Stillings (Escondido, CA) had four of those shots, all in the first half.
Hofstra had nine penalty corners to B.U.'s seven.
The Terriers will look to regroup and start another winning streak on Wednesday, October 11 when they travel to New Hampshire to take on the Wildcats at 3:30 p.m. B.U. is 10-10-3 all-time against New Hampshire, 10-8-3 under head coach Sally Starr.
