BU Women Fall to No. 25 Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Boston University women's basketball team lost to host Vanderbilt, ranked number 25 in the nation, 92-56, in the opening day of the First Tennessee Tournament on Saturday. Freshman Katie Terhune (Port Murray, NJ) led the Terriers with 14 points.
It was the first time in program history that the Terriers had played in the state of Tennessee.
The Terriers struggled to score in the first half, trailing 16-1 before Terhune hit B.U.'s first field goal with 13:50 left in the half. Vanderbilt (2-1) hit on 17-of-32 shots in the first half, 53 percent, to take a 46-16 lead at the break.
The second half was a much different story for B.U. The Terriers nearly cut their turnovers in half, committing eight as opposed to 14 in the first half. B.U. also began to find its' range from the field, hitting 45 percent on 13-for-29 shooting. Junior forward Dia Dufault (Malone, NY) scored seven of her 12 points in after the break as the Terriers were only outscored 46-40 with the Commodores still playing their starters.
The Terriers will now face Austin Peay in the consolation game on Sunday at 2 p.m. The Lady Govs fell to Miami University (Ohio) in the opening game.
Tournament Notes: B.U. is now 1-1 all-time against Vanderbilt It is the 11th year that Vanderbilt has hosted a tournament, the second year it has been known as the First Tennessee Classic The Commodores have won the tournament nine times Senior center Alison Dixon (Norwood, MA) had five steals for B.U. for the second-straight game B.U. has never faced Austin Peay.
