Boston Women lose to Maine, 54-40

BOSTON, MA (February 24, 2000) -- Jamie Cassidy (Methuen, MA) scored 16 of her game-high 20 points in the second half to lead Maine to a 54-40 America East win over Boston University before 448 at The Roof tonight.
The Black Bears (17-8, 14-2) broke a 13-13 tie with 4:30 remaining in the first half with a 14-2 run to open up a 27-15 halftime lead.
Both teams struggled offensively in the first half, as B.U. (7-18, 3-13) shot 27.3 percent (6-of-22) in the first half, and Maine connected on 32.1 percent (9-of-28).
The Terriers committed 19 of their 26 turnovers on the night in the first half.
Maine's lead swelled to 17, 48-31, with 8:38 to go in the game.
Alison Dixon (Norwood, MA) was B.U.'s lone player in double figures with 12 points. Anne Nelson (Blue Bell, PA) and Rachel Werner (Glendale, AZ) each chipped in with six points. Dia Dufault (Malone, NY) had five points and a team-high eight rebounds.
B.U. shot 33.3 percent (16-of-48), from the field and 40 percent (6-of-15) from the free throw line for the game.
The Terriers have now lost five in a row, and have been held under 50 points seven times this season.
Freshman point guard Alison Argentieri (Hornell, NY) tied a team record for most assists by a freshman with 91. She currently shares the mark with Cheryl Johnson, who accumulated 91 assists during the 1984-85 season.
First-year head coach Margaret McKeon and her Terriers conclude the home portion of their 1999-2000 schedule versus New Hampshire (12-13, 7-9) on Saturday, February 26th at 1 p.m.
