Women drop 70-66 decision to New Hampshire

BOSTON, MA (February 26, 2000) -- Boston University sophomore forward Anne Nelson scored a career-high 15 points, but New Hampshire's Adriane Domanski,Orsi Farkas, and Anna Matthias each scored 13 points to lead a balanced attack in the Wildcats, 70-66, America East conference win before 226 at The Roof Feb. 26.
With the game tied at 6-6 with 14:49 to play in the first half, New Hampshire (13-13, 8-9) went on a 15-3 run to open a 21-9 advantage with 8:57 to play in the first half. Kiki Proctor, who scored 12 points, highlighted the run with two three-point field goals.
The Terriers (7-19, 3-14) outscored the Wildcats 19-14 over the final 8 minutes of the first half to pull within nine at halftime, 34-25.
UNH shot 40.6 percent (13-of-32) in the first half, while B.U. shot 37.9 percent (11-of-29).
In the second half, New Hampshire's Kelly Donohue (11 points) scored a layup to give the Wildcats their biggest lead of the game at 38-25 with 18:29 remaining.
B.U. then went on an 8-0 run to close the deficit to five, 38-33, with 16:36 to play. The Terriers' run was fueled by a jumper by Alison Dixon (13 points), and two layups by Dia Dufault (8 points).
The Wildcats held off the Terrier charge and built their lead to 13 again at 56-43 with 9:49 to play.
B.U. stormed back, cutting the Wildcat lead down to five again, 63-58, with 4:15 to go in the game. Jen Tulley's three-pointer at 4:15 forced New Hampshire to call a timeout.
After the timeout, Anna Matthias converted a layup, and Adriane Domanski hit a three-pointer to give UNH a 68-60 lead with 2:29 to play.
Domanski's three-pointer was New Hampshire's last field goal, as B.U. scored the next six points and come within two, 68-66, with 36 seconds to play. Anne Nelson made consecutive jump shots, and Jen Tulley made a layup.
New Hampshire's Kiki Proctor made two free throws with 8 seconds left to seal the victory for the Wildcats.
The Terriers have now lost six a row for the second time this season.
B.U. is now 2-6 this season in games decided by four points or less.
Freshman point guard Alison Argentieri (Hornell, NY) set a new team record for most assists by a freshman with 95. The previous mark of 91 was established by Cheryl Johnson during the 1984-85 season.
First-year head coach Margaret McKeon and her Terriers conclude the 1999-2000 regular-season at Northeastern on Thursday, March 2nd at 7p.m.
