BOSTON, MASS. (May 22) - Patrina Blow has been named an assistant women's basketball coach at Boston University, head coach Margaret McKeon announced on May 22.
Blow, an assistant at America East Conference rival Hofstra University for the past three seasons, replaces Jerry McLaughlin, who resigned on May 12, on the Terrier coaching staff.
"Patrina will be a great addition to our staff," McKeon said. "She brings a lot of energy as well as strong communication skills to the position."
A native of Connecticut, Blow graduated from St. John's University in 1994 with a degree in graphic design. She was a four-year letter winner at St. John's, playing in 110 games from 1989 through 1993, recording 630 points, 256 assists and 120 steals in her career. She ranks 10th in assists, second in three-point field goals made, first in three-pointers attempted and fifth in three-point field goal percentage in Red Storm history.
Blow began her coaching career as a student-assistant at St. John's during the 1993-94 season. From there, she served as an assistant coach at Bunnell High School in Stratford, CT for a season before becoming assistant coach at Pace University for the 1995-96 season. At Pace, she assisted head coach Carrie Seymour in game preparation and floor coaching.
In 1997, Blow joined the Hofstra coaching staff under head coach Leslie Schlegel-Danowski. At Hofstra, she assumed many responsibilities, including individual player development, strength and conditioning and recruiting.
"Her experience in the America East will be a great advantage," McKeon said of Blow, who will be working primarily with the team's guards, three of which, Courtney Jones, Lashaunda Mitchell and Katie Terhune, are incoming freshmen.
Boston University will open the 2000-2001 season hosting the Terrier Invitational Tournament on November 18 featuring Baylor, Miami (OH) and Yale.
