Field Hockey Terriers Upended By Harvard, 1-0
October 28, 2001 | Field Hockey
BOSTON - Harvard junior Philomena Gambale scored at 29:16 of the first half and the Crimson held on to defeat Boston University, 1-0, at Harvard's Jordan Field on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 28).
The goal came off of one of the Crimson's eight penalty corner opportunities. Freshman Shelly Maasdorp fired a shot which B. U. junior goalkeeper Susan Harrington stopped, but Gambale was there to knock in the rebound.
Harrington made nine saves in goal for the Terriers. Harvard's Katie Zacarian earned the shutout win, making seven saves. Maasdorp had a game-high seven shots for Harvard. The Terriers were led by junior defender Casey Holman (Bridgeton, NJ), who finished with three shots.
Boston University wraps up its regular season with an 8-10 overall record. Its 6-3 conference mark is good enough for the second seed in next weekend's America East Conference Championship, to be held at Northeastern's Sweeney Field.
The Terriers will meet third-seeded Delaware on Friday, Nov. 2. Game time is 5:30. In the other semifinal, host Northeastern faces fourth-seeded Maine at 3 p.m. The championship game, also at Sweeney Field, is set for Sunday, Nov. 4, at 2 p.m.
