Soccer Team Banquet Set For February 2nd

Mike Emenalo, who was an All-American for the Terrier soccer team during the 1988 season and went on to be elected to the Boston University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1998, will be the keynote speaker for the Terriers' soccer banquet that will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2002.
The dinner, which will be held in the University's new student village, will get underway at 7:00 p.m. Ticket reservations can be made by calling the Terrier soccer office at 617-353-2766.
Among the highlights of the banquet will be the presentations of the end-of-the-year awards to the members of the 2001 team along with the announcement of next year's captains.
A native of Nigeria, Emenalo scored 36 goals and added 32 assists for 104 points, which currently ranks second on the Terriers' career scoring list. He was First Team All-New England all four years, and America East's conference tournament MVP as a sophomore. His senior year, he was named team MVP, First Team All-Conference, Third Team All-America, and the E. Ray Speare Award as the University's top senior student-athlete.
During his four-year career from 1985-88, the Terriers compiled an overall record of 54-17-11. They advanced to the NCAA Tournament in three of his four years, making it to the second round twice. In addition, his senior year the team won the conference regular-season title.
Michael continued to excel in soccer after graduation. He played in the 1st Division in Belgium and England as well as 2nd Division in Spain. He also played professional soccer in the U.S. for the Major League Soccer Team in San Jose, CA. Finally, he played for the 1994 Nigerian national team, making him the first foreign player to play for a U.S. college and go on to play in the World Cup.
Michael was inducted into the University's Athletic Hall of Fame in October 1998.
