Terrier Field Hockey Announces Class of 2005

BOSTON - Boston University field hockey will open its 2001 season by welcoming four newcomers into the fold, head coach Sally Starr announced. The quartet will round out the Terriers' roster of 14 that has won two consecutive America East championships and has made two straight trips to the NCAA tournament.
Freshman Meredith Long, an attacking midfielder from Ocean City, N. J., comes to B. U. as the reigning New Jersey field hockey Player of the Year. She also earned 2000 Newark Star-Ledger first team All-State honors after scoring 23 goals and 10 assists for Ocean City High School. During her four-year career , Long led her team to three consecutive New Jersey Group III state championships and an overall record of 89-6-5
Freshman Kara Rossi, a four-year starter for North Salem High School in North Salem, N. Y., led her Hudson Valley team to two straight Empire State Games field hockey gold medals in 1999 and 2000. In her junior year the midfielder earned All-State honors as well as being named team Most Valuable Player for the New York State Section I runner-up North Salem Tigers.
Freshman Adrienne Scibilia, an attacker from Ringoes, N. J., was part of a Hunterdon Central Regional High School team that made three consecutive appearances in the New Jersey Group IV state championship semifinals.
Freshman Lauren Vendetti, a midfielder from Ashland High School in Ashland, Mass., comes to B. U. as an Academic All-American, and a four-year starter for Ashland.
Boston University will return all but four players from the 2000 team that finished first in the America East Conference with a 16-8 record, and won its second consecutive conference tournament championship.
The Terriers return 67 percent of its scoring and the conference's second-ranked goaltender in Susan Harrington, who finished the season with a .788 save percentage and a 1.52 goals against average.
B. U. returns six players who earned postseason all-conference honors - senior forward Jane Rogers and senior defender Kerry Carney were named to the first team, senior forward Felicia Cappabianca and Harrington earned second team honors, and sophomore forwards Lindsay Domers and Whitney Peabody were named to the all-rookie team.
