Hawks Hand Terriers Third-Straight Loss, 58-45

PHILADELPHIA- Junior forward Marisa Moseley (Longmeadow, MA) tied a career-high with 17 points but it was not enough as the Boston University women's basketball team lost its third game of the season, 58-45, to Saint Joseph's University on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse in Philadelphia.
Irina Krasnoshiok led the sharp-shooting Hawks (1-3) with 18 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field. As a team, Saint Joseph's shot 50.0 percent from the floor, hitting 23-of-46 shots. Of the 23 field goals, 21 were assisted. B.U. shot 28.8 percent from the field and missed all 12 of its three-point field goal attempts.
B.U. (0-3) was without the services of two starters, freshman point guard Rachael Vanderwal (Stoney Creek, ONT) and junior center Amparo Lopez (Madrid, Spain), who missed the game due to injuries.
As they did in their previous loss to Harvard on Nov. 26, the Terriers trailed early, hitting just two field goals in the first 8:48 of play. A pair of free throws and a layup by Stephanie Graff gave the Hawks their first double-digit lead of the game, 14-4, at 13:50.
Krasnoshiok hit one of her five layups in the game to extend the Hawks' lead to 16-4 at 11:37.
Junior guard Katie Terhune (Port Murray, NJ) narrowed the gap to 16-6 at 11:12 with her only field goal of the game. Terhune, who entered the contest averaging a team-high 19.5 points per game, was held to just eight points, six of which came from the free throw line.
Sophomore forward Adrienne Norris (Delafield, WI) hit a jumper from the elbow and a layup to cut the lead to 18-10 at 9:05.
But the Hawks would score 13 unanswered points to take a 28-10 lead with less than three minutes remaining in the half.
Junior guard Lashaunda Mitchell (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) hit a runner from the baseline and Moseley added a lay-up and a free throw to close out the half.
B.U. trailed Saint Joseph's, 28-15, at halftime. Graff scored all of her 11 points in the first half to lead the Hawks.
Sophomore forward Larissa Parr (Eau Claire, WI) hit two layups to open the second half as the Terriers cut the Hawk lead to 32-20 at 16:04.
But Amra Mehmedic hit three of her five three-pointers in the game in a 11-4 Hawk run as Saint Joseph's took its largest lead of the game, 51-26, with 9:41 remaining. Mehmedic finished with 17 points and a game-high four steals.
The Terriers were able to cut the deficit to 13 before the final buzzer, sinking 7-of-10 from the free throw line.
B.U. out-rebounded the Hawks, 37-29, as Norris and Parr had game-highs of eight rebounds.
The Terriers return home to host the Blue Devils of Central Connecticut State on Tuesday, December 3, at 7:00 p.m.
GAME NOTES: Vanderwal is expected to miss four to six weeks with a stress fracture to her ankle…Terhune's eight points increased her career total to 978. She is 22 points from becoming the 13th player in B.U. women's basketball history to reach the 1,000-point mark.
