Durham, NH - Senior attacker Kristin Abruzzese (Medford, NJ) headlines a group of 10 Terriers that has been named to the All-Conference and All-Rookie Teams as announced at the America East women's lacrosse banquet tonight (May 1).
A First Team All-Conference selection, Abruzzese earned America East honors during all four years of her career. Abruzzese earned First Team accolades in every season except her junior year when she was named to the Second Team. During the 2002 regular season, Abruzzese led the Terriers in scoring with 36 goals and 19 assists for 55 points. The 2000 America East Tournament Most Outstanding Player, Abruzzese ranks fourth on the Terriers' all-time scoring list with 121 goals and 41 assists.
Joining Abruzzese on the First Team were senior midfielder Ericka Hergenroeder (Annpolis, MD), senior defender Gabby Juocys (Rochester, MI) and sophomore attacker Kelly Trahon (Needham, MA).
Hergenroeder, who also earned First Team honors as a sophomore, has led the Terriers in goals, draw controls, and ground balls this season. Hergenroeder had back-to-back five goal games against Albany and Cornell.
A leader on the Terrier defense, Juocys was named to the All-Conference First Team for the second consecutive season. This season, Juocys has led the Terriers in caused turnovers and is second on the team in draw controls.
The first honor of her collegiate career, Trahon joins the three seniors on the All-Conference First Team. Playing in just three games as a freshman due to a knee injury, Trahon has improved throughout her sophomore campaign and finished the regular season as the league's leader in assists.
Terriers named to the All-Conference Second Team were sophomore defenders Liz Eberhart (Ellicott City, MD) and Sasha Lang (Cornish, NH), freshman attacker Alyssa Trudel (Middlebury, VT), and senior goalkeeper Brooke Barrett (Bel Air, MD).
An All-Rookie Team selection in 2001, Eberhart has started in all 17 regular-season games and is third on the team in ground balls. Eberhart has 15 caused turnovers and just eight turnovers.
Lang has served as the Terriers' speed in the midfield transition and is fourth in the league and second on the team in caused turnovers.
Trudel, who also earned All-Rookie Team honors, led all freshmen in the America East and ranked fifth overall in the league in scoring with 29 goals and 16 assists.
Barrett played in all 17 games for the Terriers and had a 10.36 goals against average and a .492 save percentage. The Terriers' all-time leader in saves, Barrett set a program record for games played. Entering the conference tournament, Barrett will have played in 74 consecutive games.
Joining Trudel on the All-Rookie Team were goalie Anne Sheridan (Baltimore, MD) and defender Karlene Lihota (Bryn Mayr, PA).
Sheridan played in five games between the pipes for the Terriers while relieving Barrett. In her first collegiate start against No. 16 Syracuse, Sheridan made six saves while allowing four goals in 14:45 minutes of action. On the season, Sheridan has compiled a 5.58 goals against average and a .636 save percentage.
Lihota appeared in three conference games and seven games overall on the defense for the Terriers. Lihota totaled three ground balls, two caused turnovers and two draw controls.
The No. 2 Terriers play No. 3 Albany in the America East Championship semifinals tomorrow (May 2) at 3:30 p.m. The survivor plays in the championship game on Saturday at 1 p.m. against the winner of the first semifinal game between No. 1 New Hampshire and No. 4 Vermont.
