Terriers Welcome Stanford Transfer Bonner Into Fold
May 28, 2002 | Women's Basketball

BOSTON - Boston University women's basketball head coach Margaret McKeon announced Monday, May 28, that Becky Bonner, a 6-foot-2 forward from Concord High School in Concord, N. H., will transfer from Stanford and play basketball for the Terriers.
Bonner will sit out the 2002-03 season due to NCAA transfer rules, and will have two years of eligibility remaining for the Terriers starting with the 2003-04 season.
"We are extremely happy that Becky will be joining us," said McKeon, who recently signed a five-year contract extention which will keep her at B. U. through the 2006-07 season. "Coming from Stanford and having two years of playing experience at the highest level of competition, including NCAA Tournament appearances, means a lot for our basketball program."
"She will be an important part of our team," continued McKeon. "She can play either of the forward positions and center for us. She can shoot the three and play on the perimeter, she can handle the ball and go inside and play a very fundamental style of game."
In 41 career games at Stanford, Bonner averaged 1.0 point and 0.8 rebounds. She missed the first nine games of the 2001-02 season with a stress fracture in her right foot. She scored a collegiate career high 10 points - all in the first half - against UCLA.
Bonner, whose brother, Matt, is a senior on the University of Florida basketball team, was a Parade Magazine Third Team All-American as a senior at Concord High School. As a senior in 2000, she was also selected as the Gatorade New Hampshire Player of the Year and a USA Today Honorable Mention All-American. In her junior season, she averaged a triple-double with 28.4 points, 16 rebounds, and 10 assists per game, earning Street & Smith's All-America honors. She was also named All-New Hampshire after each of her four scholastic seasons.
Next season, the Terriers return all five starters and 11 players for the 2002-03 season, including First Team All-Conference selection Katie Terhune. The Terriers' 17-11 record was their first winning mark since 1994-95.
