BOSTON - Boston University women's basketball head coach Margaret McKeon announced Wednesday, August 14, that Glenn Senecal and Kathryn Otwell will join the Terrier staff as assistant coaches.
"I'm very excited to have Glenn and Kathryn join the B.U. staff," said McKeon. "They are dedicated and hardworking, and will both be major assets to our program."
Senecal spent the 2001-02 season at Marianapolis Prep where he was the Head Boy's Basketball Coach. Before returning to the high school level, Senecal worked for 10 years as the assistant men's basketball coach at Bryant College in Smithfield, R.I.. During his tenure the Bulldogs enjoyed their most successful season in school history when they finished 18-10 in 1996-97. Senecal's primary duties at Bryant included assisting with daily practices, on-floor and bench coaching during games, recruiting and monitoring of student-athlete academic progress.
"What impressed me most about Glenn was his experience," said McKeon. "I'm confident he can judge talent. I feel he can help us get to the next level and am excited to work with him."
Prior to Bryant, Senecal was an assistant coach at Holy Cross College beginning in 1989. During his first season, the Crusaders captured the MAAC Northern Division Championship, compiling a 24-5 record, the most wins since the 1953-54 season.
Senecal was an assistant at Assumption College from 1986-1989, where the Greyhounds twice earned bids to the NCAA Division II Tournament. Senecal began his collegiate coaching career as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Nichols College, in 1981.
A 1980 graduate of Nichols, Senecal holds a B.S. in Business Administration.
Otwell, an All-American at Hardins-Simmons University (1996-00), enters her first season of coaching at the Division I level. Last year, Otwell played for KFI Iceland in the Division I European League while coaching the KFI Division II semi-professional team. Otwell led the KFI Division I team to the Kjoris Cup and a berth in the European Tournament. Her KFI Division II team finished with a 14-5 record.
"Kathryn was a very talented player in college," said McKeon. "She brings a competitive and positive attitude to our staff."
Beginning her coaching career at her alma mater, Otwell served as a graduate assistant for the Hardin-Simmons varisty squad during the 2000-01 season. She was responsible for recruiting, travel arrangements and on-court coaching.
A native of Abiline, Texas, Otwell led Hardins-Simmons to three consecutive American Southwest Conference championships, earning Conference Most Valuable Player honors during the 1997-98 and 1998-99 seasons. As a senior, Otwell was selected as a Division III Kodak All-American after guiding the team to the Elite Eight.
Otwell graduated Magna Cum Laude from Hardins-Simmons in 1999, earning a Bachelor of Behavior Science. Last spring, she completed her studies with a Masters of Education in Sports Administration.
