Field Hockey Eliminated From Championship With 3-1 NU Loss

BOSTON - Northeastern junior Liane Dixon scored a pair of goals, leading the top-seeded Huskies to a 3-1 win over fourth-seeded Boston University in the semifinals of the 2003 America East Field Hockey Championship at NU's Sweeney Field on Friday, Nov. 7.
The Huskies (16-5) advance to play the winner of the No. 2 University of New Hampshire vs. No. 3 University of Maine semifinal matchup on Sunday, Nov. 9 at 2 p.m.
Dixon scored the first of her two goals at 28:14, and senior Melissa Rowell added another at 33:38 to give Northeastern a 2-0 lead at the break.
B. U. (9-11) scored a goal on their second of two straight penalty corners 1:30 into the second half, cutting the Huskies' lead to 2-1. Senior forward Whitney Peabody (Hamilton, Mass.) scored her second goal of the season off assists from senior forwards Dalinda Banuelos (Escondido, Calif.) and Lindsey Domers (Voorhees, N. J.). It was the first goal Northeastern has allowed to an America East opponent this season.
Huskies' junior Mari Creatini stole the ball in their offensive end and fed a pass to Dixon, who raced into the circle and scored her second goal to push the NU advantage back to two goals at 3-1 at 55:52.
Northeastern outshot the Terriers, 9-2, and held a 9-5 edge in penalty corners. All of the Terriers' five corner opportunities came in the second half.
Domers and senior forward Celeste Hubbard (Detroit, Mich.) were both named to the All-Championship Team. NU's Dixon was selected as the Championship's Most Outstanding Player.
