BOSTON - Sophomore midfielder Alyssa Trudel (Shoreham, VT) was named to the IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-America Second Team as announced by IWLCA Chairperson Kerstin Kimmel on Tuesday, May 27.
Trudel becomes sixth Terrier to receive All-America honors, and just the third to earn the status before their junior season. She joins former honorees Kristin Abruzzese (Second Team, 2000), Gabby Juocys (Third Team 2001), Chris Fleming (Honorable Mention 1984), Ericka Hergenroeder (Third Team 2002), and Chrissy Lombard (Second Team 2000, 2001, Third Team 1999).
Also selected to the Regional All-American and All-Conference First Teams, Trudel enjoyed a record-breaking season while leading the Terriers (14-5, 5-0) to the 2003 America East Championship and a bid to the NCAA Tournament. Trudel set B.U. single-season records in points (86), assists (42), and draw controls (50), while ranking in the Top 20 in the nation in all three categories.
Trudel opened the season with a five-goal, three-assist effort in the Terriers' 17-1 win over Quinnipiac on March 5. The five goals set a career-high while the eight points tied a career-best.
After B.U. dropped four of its next five games, Trudel sent the Terriers back to winning ways, scoring four goals and dishing out three assists in a 14-12 upset win over 13th-ranked Old Dominion on March 29. The victory opened a 12-game win streak for the Terriers and earned Trudel the first of four America East Player of the Week honors.
As the Terriers ran off a perfect 5-0 mark in conference play, Trudel led the team in scoring with 15 goals and 18 assists in the five games.
Trudel totaled seven points off two goals and five assists in B.U.'s 15-4 win over Stony Brook in the America East Championship semifinals on May 1, and scored three goals and had two assists in the 11-6 win over New Hampshire in the title game on May 3. Capping off the season, Trudel scored twice in the Terriers' 9-7 loss to seventh-ranked Dartmouth in the first round of the NCAA Championship on May 8.
In 36 career games, Trudel is tied for second on B.U.'s career assists list (62), seventh in scoring (139 points), and ninth in goals (77). Trudel is one of nine starters and 21 letterwinners who will return for the 2004 season.
