BOSTON - Susan Blauser, a former Naismith Player of the Year candidate at the University of Illinois, will join the Boston University women's basketball staff as an assistant coach, Terrier head coach Margaret McKeon announced today (Tuesday, June 17).
"We are very excited for Susan to join our staff," said McKeon. "She brings to us a great playing background and an enthusiastic attitude towards coaching."
Blauser served as a graduate assistant coach at Clarion (PA) University for the past two seasons, earning WBCA National Graduate Assistant Coach of the Year honors in 2003. Blauser's primary duties at Clarion included practice planning, development of post player skills, opponent's scouting, recruiting, and operating the summer camp program.
Prior to coaching, Blauser spent one year working at IKON Office Solutions as an outside sales account representative.
Blauser graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in community heath in 2000, and received a Master of Science degree from Clarion University in 2003.
While at Illinois, she earned All-Big 10 honors and was a Naismith Player of the Year candidate in 1999. She was invited to the WBCA Top 15 Senior All-Star Game in 2000.
Blauser began her collegiate career at Rutgers University, and was a Big East All-Rookie team selection in 1996. As a sophomore, she served as the team's captain and received the Rutgers' Most Valuable Player award.
"Susan was an outstanding collegiate player, recruited by some of the top teams in the nation. I know she'll be able to challenge our players every day at practice."
Blauser joins fifth-year head coach Margaret McKeon and assistant coaches Micah Hauben and Kathryn Otwell on the Terrier coaching staff.
Boston University (16-15, 10-6) made its first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament during the 2002-03 season after capturing its first-ever America East Conference title. The Terriers return four starters and 10 letterwinners for the 2003-04 season.
