BOSTON - Sophomore goalkeeper Anne Sheridan (Baltimore, MD) was one of 24 players selected to the U.S. Women's Lacrosse Developmental Team as announced by US Lacrosse on Tuesday, June 3.
Sheridan will join the team for the 2003-04 season to play exhibition games against college teams and serve as a clinician for the US Lacrosse Women's Division National Clinic Month activities scheduled for February, 2004. The Developmental Team also serves as a recruiting pool for the U.S. Elite Team. Sheridan received an invitation to the tryouts after playing for the New England I Team at the US Lacrosse National Tournament on May 24-25.
During the 2003 season, Sheridan started all 19 games for the Terriers, leading the squad to the 2003 America East Championship and the program's second-ever bid to the NCAA Tournament. Sheridan finished the season ranked fifth in the nation in goals against average (7.02) and ninth in save percentage (.567) en route to a 14-5 record.
A First Team North Region All-American, Sheridan becomes just the third Terrier selected to one of the U.S. National Teams. B.U. Hall of Famer Mildred Barnes ('51) spent 11 seasons with the Elite program while Kyle Rutkowski ('01) played for two seasons on the Developmental Team.
Sheridan follows in the footsteps of Terrier head coach Liza Shoemaker, who played three years with the U.S. Elite Team and two with the Developmental Team.
Sheridan will be one of nine starters and 21 letterwinners who will return for the 2004 season.
