Durham, NH - Boston University secured its place atop the America East standings with a 2-0 victory over New Hampshire at Lewis Field on Saturday, Oct. 23.
Sophomore goalkeeper Chad Comroe (Dallas, TX) posted his second consecutive shutout as the Terriers improved to 7-6-1 on the season and 5-1-1 in the league. The win also ensured B.U. a spot in the 2004 America East Championship. The Wildcats, who saw their six-game conference unbeaten streak snapped, fell to 4-4-6 overall and 3-1-3 in conference play.
Freshman forward Roland Erlichman (Paradise Valley, AZ) sparked both of the Terriers scoring opportunities in the game. In the 36th minute, Erlichman had his shot initially blocked by UNH goalkeeper Brian Levey. Junior midfielder Jamie Johnson (Brisbane, Australia) fired the rebound into the net to give B.U. a 1-0 lead at 35:57. The score was Johnson's second game-winning goal in as many days. He also had a penalty kick goal in B.U.'s 2-0 win over Northeastern on Oct. 20.
In the second half, Erlichman set up the insurance goal, collecting a pass from sophomore back Steven Gahl (Kensington, MD), and feeding senior midfielder Federico Bianchi (Pacific Palisades, CA) in the 82nd minute. Bianchi scored his second goal of the season and 13th of his career at 81:07.
The Wildcats took 13 shots but Comroe was able to keep the team off the scoreboard, registering three saves in the game. B.U. had 10 shots in the game, while Levey made one save.
The Terriers wrap up the non-conference portion of their schedule when they host Brown on Tuesday, Oct. 26.
