Terriers Clinch Top Seed With Win Over Retrievers, 2-0

BOSTON - Sophomore goalkeeper Chad Comroe (Dallas, TX) posted his fourth consecutive shutout as the B.U. men's soccer team defeated visiting UMBC, 2-0, at Nickerson Field on Saturday, Oct. 30.
With the victory, B.U. (9-6-1, 6-1-1) clinches the top seed for the 2004 America East Championship. The Terriers will receive a first-round bye and will host a semifinal game on Wednesday, Nov. 10.
UMBC (7-6-3, 3-5-0) falls to sixth-place in the league standings and will battle for a final spot in the post-season tournament in their regular-season finale against Hartford on Wednesday, Nov. 3.
Freshman forward Roland Erlichman (Paradise Valley, AZ) opened the scoring for the Terriers in the 10th minute of play. Off a free kick from junior midfielder Jamie Johnson (Brisbane, Australia), Erlichman redirected the cross with a kick into the right corner of the net at 9:29.
The Retrievers had a number of scoring chances in the second half, including a point blank shot by Derek McElliott in the 75th minute, but Comroe was again solid in goal. The sophomore goalkeeper made a game-high six saves in the game to earn his fourth shutout in a row and sixth on the season.
Celebrating senior night, midfielder Federico Bianchi (Pacific Palisades, CA) scored the Terriers' insurance goal off a feed from junior midfielder John Cooper (Greer, SC) at 76:40.
UMBC goalkeeper Andy Marchica finished with five saves.
In addition to the playoff implications, the Terriers also ensured a 20th consecutive winning season for head coach Neil Roberts. Entering the season ranked 36th on the Division I coaches all-time wins list, Roberts has posted a 240-106-49 overall record during his career.
B.U. closes out its regular-season with a road game at Maine on Wednesday, Nov. 3, at 2:00 p.m.
