BOSTON - Boston University field hockey junior midfielder Colleen McClay (Mahopac, N.Y. / Mahopac) and senior back Lauren Vendetti (Ashland, Mass. / Ashland) were selected to the 2004 STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I Northeast Region All-Region First Team, as announced by the NFHCA on Nov. 16.
Three Terriers were named to the Second Team. They were sophomore goalkeeper Erin Prediger (Telford, Pa. / Souderton), senior forward Kara Rossi (North Salem, N.Y. / North Salem), and freshman forward Pam Spuehler (Sudbury, Mass. / Lincoln-Sudbury).
It was the first NFHCA All-Region honor for each. The quintuplet brought to 64 the number of NFHCA Northeast Region All-Region picks under head coach Sally Starr. Those 64 student-athletes have earned a total of 86 All-Region awards.
It was the second time that McClay and Vendetti represented B.U. on a First Team this season. They were both named to the America East All-Conference First Team after leading the Terriers to a perfect 6-0 conference record, the conference's regular-season title, and the top seed in the conference championship. Rossi and Spuehler were also America East All-Conference Second Team selections. In addition, Spuehler was named America East's Rookie of the Year and also earned All-Rookie Team honors.
Vendetti was second on the team in scoring with 10 goals and 4 assists for 14 points, while McClay tallied a career-best 15 assists, which placed her among the nation's leaders. Prediger also had a career year, posting a 1.36 goals-against average and a stellar .806 save percentage. Spuehler had 7 goals and 1 assist for 15 points. Three of Rossi's 6 goals were game-winners. She had 2 assists in addition to her six goals for 14 points.
This season, B.U. brought a young team to the field but finished with a 13-7 record, and made its first America East championship game appearance since 2000. The Terriers fell to Northeastern, 2-0, in the final. They finished 19th in the final NFHCA Division I national poll.
