CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Led by a pair of goals from junior Pam Spuehler, the Boston University field hockey team posted its third straight victory on Wednesday afternoon with a 4-1 decison against Harvard at Jack Barry Field. Senior Amy Seaman recorded a goal and an assist, helping the Terriers improve to 11-6 overall and 8-1 at home.
Junior striker Hayley Hamada continued her solid play as of late, recording a pair of assists, while classmate Sarah Shute tallied her team-leading 12th goal of the season.
The Terriers scored in the early seconds of the eight minute when Hamada entered the circle from the right and sent a cross to Shute, who fired away and found the boards from eight yards out.
BU was able to tack on another goal before intermission, taking advantage of a scramble near the cage with just over two minutes left in the opening stanza. After a shot by senior Erin Calamari was saved by Harvard netminder Kelly Knoche, the ball was knocked around near the goalmouth before Seaman got enough of her stick on it to reach Spuehler, who sent the ball in from just outside the left post.
Spuehler struck again just 3:09 into the second half after being the beneficiary of a perfect pass from Hamada on a breakaway. Hamada drove towards the left side of the cage, drawing Knoche out to the ball before slotting a pass to Spuehler for an easy tally.
Seaman capped BU's scoring in the 44th minute when she intercepted a pass deep in the Crimson zone and dribbled into the circle before punching the ball past Knoche to make it a 4-0 contest.
Harvard scored on its only shot of the game, as freshman Annie Calvert redirected a cross from senior Audrey Ziomek to the boards at the 59:51 mark.
The Terriers held a 13-1 advantage in shots and earned all four of the penalty corners awarded in the contest.
BU will close its three-game homestand on Saturday, Oct. 28, in its regular-season finale against Maine. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
