Coming in at No. 4 in this year's Terrier Twelve is the field hockey team's thrilling run to the Patriot League title in Sally Starr's final season as head coach.
After entering the Patriot League tournament as the No. 4 seed, BU upset top-seeded American, 1-0, in the semifinals before taking down defending champion Lafayette in the title game by a score of 3-2 thanks to a record-breaking performance from senior Caroline O'Brien.
In the semifinals, junior Nicole Lauro scored the lone goal of the game and classmate Sophie Ortyl earned the shutout in goal as the Terriers improved to 9-2 all-time in the PL semifinal round. The Terrier defense was phenomenal, allowing just two shot attempts to reach the cage.
O'Brien was the story against the Leopards as she recorded the first hat trick in Patriot League title game history, scoring goals to give BU leads of 1-0 and 2-1 before breaking a 2-2 tie in the 57th minute to push the Terriers to their fifth PL title.
O'Brien, the tournament MVP, led all PL players in both points (37) and goals (15) in 2025 and joined sisters Martu and Delfi Coulo on the All-Patriot League teams. That trio was joined by senior Megan Wetzel on the PL All-Tournament Team.
Starr retired in December and finished her legendary career ranked sixth all-time in Division I field hockey wins with 528.
