No. 8/9 Lacrosse Hosts UNH in America East Showdown
April 29, 2006 | Women's Lacrosse
BOSTON - With its sights set on another regular-season America East crown, the No. 8/9 Boston University women's lacrosse team will play host to conference rival New Hampshire on Saturday, April 29. Game time is set for noon. The Terriers (12-4, 4-1 AE) will honor their nine-member senior class prior to the game with the Wildcats (10-5, 4-1).
Both squads are among a three-team logjam for first place in the America East conference standings, as UMBC is also 4-1 in league play. The Retrievers visit last-place Binghamton on Saturday. In head-to-head play this season, which is the first tiebreaker for home field, UMBC defeated BU, but fell to UNH.
If UNH ends BU's 21-game home win streak, it will host the conference tournament next weekend. UMBC can earn home-field for the tournament if it wins against the Bearcats and BU defeats UNH. In order to play on their home field next weekend, the Terriers need to beat the Wildcats and have Binghamton earn its first conference victory of the season.
Last season, the Terriers earned a 10-9 overtime road victory over UNH in their regular-season finale to finish with a perfect 6-0 conference record. The teams last met in last year's America East title game, where BU dominated in a 16-6 rout.
The Wildcats had a nine-game win streak snapped last Friday when they dropped an 18-13 road decision to Stony Brook. Senior Katie Leland has posted team highs of 46 goals and 27 assists, while four other Wildcats have tallied at least 40 points. Junior defender Christine Carbone leads the squad in both ground balls (49) and caused turnovers (22).
For the Terriers, senior Mary Beth Miller needs just two more assists to tie the program's single-season mark of 42. Sophomore Jenny Hauser has a league-best 80 points this season and is six points shy of BU's single-season record.
