BOSTON - Headlined by a pair of second-team selections, three members of the Boston University women's lacrosse team have earned IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-America honors, as was announced on Tuesday. Senior Lindsay Lewis and sophomore Jenny Hauser earned second-team accolades, while senior Danica Strutt was named to the third team.
The total of three All-Americans ties the program record set last year when seniors Anne Sheridan and Alyssa Trudel earned first-team honors and Lewis was a third-team selection. The IWLCA and US Lacrosse will honor this year's All-Americans at an awards banquet in Baltimore, Md., on June 10.
Lewis, who scored a school-record 187 goals during her career, tallied 61 points this spring, including 54 goals. She recorded a team-high 42 draw controls and finished second on the squad in ground balls with 45. Lewis scored at least one goal in 70 of her final 72 games, including a streak of 36 straight.
A three-time Northeast region first-team pick, Lewis earned all-conference and all-region honors in each of her four seasons with the Terriers. She finished her career ranked fourth on BU's all-time points list with 232 and will also leave her mark in career draw controls (132, second) caused turnovers (67, sixth), ground balls (133, seventh).
Hauser turned in the finest offensive campaign in Terrier history, setting the school marks for points (102) and goals (70) in a season. The 2006 America East Player of the Year, Hauser tied the BU record for points in a game three times, tallying nine points against Massachusetts, Boston College and New Hampshire.
While this is Hauser's first IWLCA All-America honor, the attacker was named to Inside Lacrosse's All-America First Team in 2005. In just two seasons, Hauser has 172 points, including 124 goals. Hauser doubled her assist total from a freshman season, recording 32 this spring.
The most outstanding player of the 2006 America East Championship, Strutt earns her first All-America honor after leading a BU defense that ranked sixth in the country, allowing just under eight goals per game. Strutt led the Terriers in both ground balls (52) and caused turnovers (24).
Strutt, who earned all-region honors in each of the past two seasons, played in more games than any other Terrier in the program's 18-year history, never missing a start in all 78 games since her arrival in 2003. She ranks fourth all-time at BU in caused turnovers with 78 and eighth in ground balls with 132. Her 121 career draw controls is the third most in program history.
