BOSTON – Three student-athletes have signed letters of intent with the Boston University women’s basketball program, as Kristen Folk (Moosic, Pa.), Aly Hinton (Richboro, Pa.) and Jacy Schulz (Middleburg Heights, Ohio) will join the Terriers’ roster for the 2006-07 campaign.
“Our staff is very excited to have Kristen, Aly and Jacy join our team,” said head coach Kelly Greenberg. “All three of them and their families will be great additions to our program.”
Folk, a 6-4 center from Scranton Prepatory High School, earned second-team all-state honors this past season after helping her team earn a division title in addition to a second-place district finish. As a senior co-captain, Folk averaged 11.0 points per game and led her team in both rebounding and blocks. Folk earned all-district and all-league all-star honors and earned MVP honors at the Lynett Tournament after leading Scranton Prep to the tournament title.
“Kristen comes from a very successful high school program and we are very excited that she will be joining us,” said Greenberg. “Her height will be a key asset.”
A 5-9 guard, Schulz averaged 20 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals per game during her senior year at Midpark High School, where she set the program record for points scored in a career. In addition to being a two-time second-team All-Ohio honoree, Schulz earned a spot on this year’s Northeast Ohio First Team. Schulz led the Southwest Conference in scoring this past season to help her earn conference MVP honors. Her AAU team, SMAC Lady Elite, finished third at both the Blue Chip Invitational and the AAU Nationals.
“Jacy is a fantastic shooter and she will certainly bring more depth to our guards,” said Greenberg. “Her competitive nature will add a lot to our team.”
Hinton comes to BU from Council Rock High School, where she served as a two-year captain and helped her team claim four straight league titles in addition to earning District 1 championships in 2003 and 2006. A 6-1 forward, Hinton led her squad to the PIAA 4A state finals this past season while earning All-Suburban first-team honors for the third consecutive season. Hinton was also selected to the All-Southeastern Pennsylvania Second Team.
“I have known Aly since she was 10 years old and she’s got a wonderful feel for the game,” said Greenberg. “She comes from one of the top programs in Pennsylvania and she is a proven winner.”
With the addition of the three newcomers, who were all members of the National Honor Society at their respective high schools, the Terriers’ roster now includes student-athletes from 10 different states and two Canadian provinces.
