BOSTON – Liz Robertshaw, an eight-year coaching veteran at the Division I level, has been named head coach of the Boston University women’s lacrosse program after serving as the team’s assistant for the past three seasons, announced today by Mike Lynch, BU’s director of athletics.
Robertshaw, who was elevated to associate head coach earlier this summer, will officially begin her tenure as head coach on Friday, Sept. 1.
“It is with pleasure that we promote Liz Robertshaw as the new head coach of Boston University’s women’s lacrosse program," said Lynch. "Liz has been a key component to our success over the past three seasons and we are confident that her style and dedication will maintain Boston University’s position as one of the top women’s lacrosse programs in the country."
"I am very grateful to Boston University and the athletic administration for this opportunity," said Robertshaw. "I have thoroughly enjoyed the past three years and am very excited to begin my head-coaching career at such a prestigious institution."
Robertshaw has served as the team's offensive coordinator and has also headed up the Terriers' recruiting efforts. BU has brought in standout recruiting classes in recent years and the team's attack unit has been ranked in the top 10 nationally in each of the past two seasons.
This past spring, the Terriers claimed the America East regular-season and tournament titles and advanced to the NCAA tournament for the second consecutive season. Over the past two years, BU has compiled a record of 33-7 and has achieved a ranking as high as third in the country.
Prior to arriving at Boston University, Robertshaw served as an assistant coach at Brown University from 2000-03, working with the Bears' defensive unit and goalkeepers. Before Brown, Robertshaw began her coaching career at her alma mater, George Mason University, working as an assistant coach from 1998-1999.
Robertshaw earned USWLA All-American recognition in both her junior and senior seasons and STX/IWLCA All-American recognition in her senior year, becoming the first George Mason women’s lacrosse player to earn All-America distinction. During her career, Robertshaw was a two-time captain and totaled a record 90 caused turnovers. Robertshaw was also a four-time all-conference selection and was awarded the Aimee Willard Award as the best collegiate player at the US Lacrosse National Tournament in 1998.
Robertshaw received a bachelor’s degree in English from George Mason in 1999.
