Terriers Cruise to 89-40 Victory Over Stony Brook

BOSTON - Juniors Jesyka Burks-Wiley and Christine Kinneary each recorded double-doubles, as the Boston University women's basketball team cruised to an 89-40 victory over Stony Brook on Saturday afternoon at Case Gym. Burks-Wiley led all scorers with 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Kinneary posted 11 points and dished out 10 assists. The Terriers featured six players in double figures and led by as many as 56 points in the contest, as they improve to 9-7 overall and 2-1 in America East action. Stony Brook falls to 6-10 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

BU shot 48 percent (36-for-75) for the game, and 31.6 from the behind the arc. It out-rebounded the Seawolves by a 61-39 margin, marking the first time since Nov. 17, 2001 when a Terrier squad brought down 60 or more boards. The Terriers capitalized on 21 SBU miscues to score 24 points off turnovers. They also posted 24 points on second-chance points and 42 in the paint.

Other players reaching double figures were senior Cheri Raffo (14 pts.), junior Amarachi Umez-Eronini (12 pts.), junior Kristi Dini (10 pts.) and sophomore Kristen Folk (10 pts.). Umez-Eronini was one rebound shy of her first collegiate double-double and she earned three steals in the contest. Sophomore Aly Hinton put in a solid effort with eight boards and five assists.

Burks-Wiley and Kinneary were named the America East Player's of the Game for their efforts. In addition to her double-double, Kinneary was a perfect 5-for-5 from the field, while earning three steals.

The Terriers came out firing on all cylinders, jumping out to a 9-0 lead and never looking back. They kept the Seawolves scoreless for the first three minutes of the contest and by the 15:02 mark, BU was up by a 17-4 margin. The Terriers' stingy defense kept Stony Brook in single digits for the first 15 minutes of the stanza until senior Dana Ferrero went in for a layup at 5:52.

At the break, BU held a commanding 54-19 advantage - its largest lead at the break this season. The 54-point performance in the first period was also a season high for the squad.

In the second half the Terriers picked up where they left off, opening on a 17-2 run that spanned six minutes. BU took its largest lead of the game when Kinneary went in for a layup to give the Terriers' a 56-point advantage at 10:06. After that, the Seawolves could not get any closer than 48 points, as BU buckled down and held SBU to seven points in the final five minutes.

BU will head to Orono, Maine on Wednesday, Jan. 23 when it takes on Maine at 7:30 p.m.
