CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Junior Haley Robinson's first goal of the season came with no time remaining on the clock as the Boston University field hockey team completed a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Fairfield on Saturday afternoon at Jack Barry Field. The Terriers scored three unanswered goals in the second half, which culminated with Robinson's tally off a penalty corner. Junior Gabby Hajjar scored a goal and added an assist on the game-winner as BU improves to 6-7 overall and 2-0 in the America East Conference.
With the loss, Fairfield falls to 4-10 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
After falling behind by two goals seven minutes into the contest, the Terriers took control of the game and the offense began to mount pressure on the Fairfield defense. Although they finished the first half scoreless, the Terriers outshot the Stags by an 8-2 margin and held them without a shot after the two goals were scored.
In the second stanza, BU wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as junior Nikki Lloyd redirected a pass from graduate student Sheena Berry, who had inserted the ball into the circle from the far left side. Lloyd's shot into the lower right corner found the back of the cage at 44:08.
Hajjar knotted the score at two just four minutes later with a great individual effort as she maneuvered through the Fairfield defense and sent a crisp shot into the middle of the cage for her second goal of the season.
With six seconds remaining on the clock before the end of regulation, BU earned a penalty corner and Hajjar inserted the ball to Robinson, who unloaded the game-winning shot.
The Terriers held the commanding 22-6 advantage in shots, and forced the Stags' Jennifer Utz to make eight saves in net. Sophomore Kim Kastuk made one save in the winning effort.
BU travels to Providence on Sunday and game time is set for a 3 p.m.
