
Three Terriers Compete at the Wilson/ITA East Regional Championships

PHILADELPHIA - Freshmen Petra Santini and Stefanie Nunic along with junior Francine Whu represented the Boston University women's tennis team at the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional Championships this past weekend at the University of Pennsylvania.
Santini led the Terriers with a 3-1 record, as she defeated student athletes from Richmond (6-1, 6-1) and William & Mary (7-5, 6-2) during singles qualifying to become one of the 96 players in the main draw. She then earned a first round victory over Longwood's Simon, 6-0, 6-2 before losing to Virginia Tech's Inga Beerman, 6-0, 6-1, in the second round. The freshman is now 6-1 overall after two tournaments.
Whu and Nunic first competed together in doubles action to defeat Longwood's Simon/Zsofia, 8-3, in the first round before dropping a 8-3 decision to Richmond's Clark/Duncan in the second.
Both Terriers received a first-round bye in the singles main draw. Nunic first defeated Binghamton's Bates, 6-4, 6-2. She then won the first set of her second-round match before eventually losing, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1, to Boston College's Krasnopolsky.
Buffalo's Harijanto eliminated Whu in the second round, 6-3, 6-0.
BU will return to the tennis courts on Friday (Oct. 31) in New Haven, Conn. for the three-day Yale Invitational.
