BOSTON - The Boston University women's soccer team (11-5-2, 6-1-0 AE) has claimed at least a share of its third straight America East regular-season title as a result of Stony Brook's 4-0 loss to Maine on Thursday afternoon. The Terriers, who close out their regular season on Sunday with UMBC, will host a semifinal match-up on Sunday, Nov. 1.
"We are very excited to be in the position that we are in with one game remaining in the regular season," said head coach Nancy Feldman. "On Sunday, we will be aiming to claim the title outright on Senior Day on our home turf. We are also thrilled to have the opportunity to host a semifinal match-up on November 1st in front of our fans at Nickerson Field."
With the Terriers earning their seventh regular season title since 2000, they will receive a first-round bye. Last year, after defeating Maine, 1-0, in the semifinals, BU defended its conference crown with a 2-1 win over Stony Brook.
The story of this season has been BU's diverse offensive lineup, which has produced a conference-best 32 goals. Thirteen different Terriers have scored and eight have tallied multiple goals. Sophomore Jessica Luscinski leads the team with 16 points on four goals and eight assists, and she is followed by seniors Emily Pallotta and Farrell McClernon with 14 points apiece.
McClernon's three points on Wednesday evening against Bryant pushed her into eighth among BU's all-time scoring leaders as she has now totaled 49 in her career, while Pallotta cracked the top ten on the list with 43 over the last three and a half years. Luscinski's eight assists sit alone in fourth for a single season, and she is now three away from tying Deidre Enos' eight-year-old record.
Head coach Nancy Feldman, who has won more America East championships than any other AE coach, will first prepare the Terriers for their regular-season finale with UMBC on Sunday (Oct. 25) before hosting the semifinal contest on November 1.
