BOSTON - The Boston University women's basketball team (0-2) will host its home opener at The Roof on Wednesday night when Rhode Island (0-1) comes to town for a 7 p.m. contest on NESN. The Terriers bring with them an impressive 21-1 home record at Case Gym against non-conference opponents over the last two seasons, while the Rams will be looking for their first win of the young season.
THE TERRIERS: BU opened its season with a busy weekend as it played two games in two days. On Friday (Nov. 13) the Terriers traveled to Kentucky to take on the Wildcats, however, they came away with a 92-58 loss. Two short days later, BU made its way back to Massachusetts to take on the Minutewomen and despite a 20-point performance from Caitlynn Moran the squad fell in overtime, 79-73. In that contest, senior Aly Hinton recorded BU's first double-double of the season as she poured in 13 points and brought down ten boards.
Through two games, Moran is leading the team in points per game (15.0), steals (3) and 3-pointers (11), while classmate Kristen Sims and sophomore Caroline Stewart are also averaging double-digits as each has posted 10.5 ppg. Hinton leads the Terriers with 7.0 rpg and averages 9.0 ppg.
THE RAMS: The Rams opened their season with a 74-48 loss vs. Fairfield. Lara Gaspar led the team with 13 points and 12 rebounds - her first career double-double - while Megan Shoniker added 12 points and four assists.
BU VS. URI: The BU-URI rivalry dates back to Feb. 27, 1978, a 58-34 BU loss in Rhode Island. The series continued through the 1980s with the Terriers and Rams splitting, 5-5. BU and URI renewed the rivalry in 2006 in Kingston, R.I., with the Terriers taking home an 82-66 victory. The past two seasons have resulted in two more wins - a 77-56 triumph on Nov. 13, 2007 and a 50-45 win on Nov. 14, 2008 - to give BU the 8-6 advantage in the all-time series record.
BU VS. THE ATLANTIC-10: BU is 28-27 (.509) against Atlantic-10 schools. It owns winning records against URI (8-6), Dayton (1-0), Fordham (3-1), George Washington (1-0), and Temple (2-1). Over the past three seasons, BU has faced at least two A-10 opponents in each campaign, and this year is no different as BU faces UMass and URI in 2009-10. Under head coach Kelly Greenberg, BU is 6-3 against the conference.

LAST TIME OUT VS. URI (NOV. 14, 2008): Jesyka Burks-Wiley ('09) netted a game-high 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds to help BU open the season with a 50-45 win over Rhode Island on Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, at the Thomas Ryan Center. Christine Kinneary ('09) chipped in 11 points and six rebounds and Aly Hinton also tallied six boards.
NEXT TIME OUT: BU will take on St. John's on Saturday, Nov. 21, when it travels to Queens, N.Y. for a 2 p.m. contest.
BU IN HOME OPENERS: BU is 20-14 all-time in home openers, and under head coach Kelly Greenberg the Terriers are 4-1. Last season, Boston University opened its home slate with Siena and came away with an 84-61 triumph.
FRESHMEN PHENOMS: In their collegiate debuts, three freshmen had standout games as Chantell Alford, Caitlynn Moran and Kristen Sims combined to score 36 points at Kentucky on Nov. 13. Sims led the way with a team-high 17 points, while Moran was three boards shy of a double-double with 10 points and seven boards. Alford chipped in nine points and seven rebounds, as the trio showed a lot of promise in its debut in the scarlet and white. Moran and Sims' double-digit debut is the first time since 2004-05 that two BU rookies began their careers in double-figures. Five years ago, Cheri Raffo and Corinne Jean debuted with 10 and 14 points, respectively.
Moran is the first rookie to score 20 points in a game since Aly Hinton did it in 2006-07, and the first freshman to score in double-figures in her first two games since Corinne Jean accomplished the feat in 2004-05.
COUNTDOWN TO 1,000: Senior Aly Hinton is the next Terrier in line to reach the 1,000-point plateau. The Richboro, Pa., native is just a mere 184 points away.
GREENBERG NEAR TWO MILESTONES: Greenberg needs just seven wins to reach 100 victories in her time at BU and she is 23 away from the 200-win career milestone as a head coach. She is second all-time in program hi tory for victories with 93 and her .596 winning percentage is the program's best in the last 30 years.
CASE CLOSED: The confines of Case Gym have proven to be a formidable home-court advantage for the Terriers over the last three seasons as they have won 25-of-26 contests and are 21-1 against non-conference opponents in the last two seasons at Case Gymnasium. In addition, the Terriers have not lost to a conference opponent in 18 straight games, dating back to Feb. 17, 2007.
In 2007-08, BU was 11-0 overall and 8-0 in America East action, and the Terriers' only home loss came at Agganis Arena on Nov. 17, 2007 to then-No. 16 Ohio State. It marked the first time in program history the Terriers went undefeated at Case. Last year, BU went 12-1 at home with its lone home loss coming to St. John's on Dec. 30, 2008.
Six times, BU has lost just one home contest (2008-09, 2007-08, 1994-95, 1986-87, 1979-80, 1977-78).
TERRIERS AT AGGANIS ARENA: The Terriers have played at Agganis Arena seven times since the arena was built in the 2004-05 season and they currently own a 5-2 record at the facility following its 71-57 victory over Maine on Sunday (March 1).
3-POINT SCORING STREAK: The Terriers have successfully hit at least one 3-point attempt in each of the past 199 games, a streak that spans over six seasons. The last time BU went a game without hitting a trey was on Feb. 8, 2003 against Binghamton. Within that streak, the Terriers have hit 33.5 percent (1,230-3,669) of their 3-point attempts.
