BOSTON - Five Terriers were named to the New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) All-New England teams, as seniors Casey Brown and Emily Pallotta were placed on the first team and classmates Janie Reilly and Farrell McClernon as well as junior Shauna Kelleher were named to the second team.
Recently Brown became the first Terrier to earn NSCAA All-America honors since Meghann Cook accomplished the feat in 2005. The Natick, Mass., native established herself as one of the nation's stingiest defenders in 2009, earning her third straight America East Defender of the Year honor - an AE first - and helping the Terriers' backline record 12 shutouts and a 0.66 goals-against average, which rank 24th and 23rd in the NCAA, respectively. A senior tri-captain, Brown has been a stabilizing force on defense as conference foes have only recorded 17 goals since her arrival on campus. She is a three-time America East All-Conference First Team honoree and a three-time member of the NSCAA All-Northeast region teams.
Classmate Emily Pallotta, capped off a brilliant career in the scarlet and white with yet another strong season. She led the team in goals (8) and contributed three assists for 19 points, which gives her with 48 career points - ninth all-time. The 2009 AE Midfielder of the Year, Pallotta was a two-time America East All-Conference First Team honoree and was recently named to the NSCAA All-Northeast Region First Team.
Senior netminder Janie Reilly will graduate as one of the Terriers most accomplished netminders and was recently named to the All-Northeast Region Second Team, following a standout senior campaign. Reilly recorded eight shutouts in 2009 with a 0.53 goals-against average and .853 save percentage. She ranked 12th in the nation in GAA and 28th in save percentage. She graduates with 20 career shutouts which is tied for second in program history.
McClernon, one of the program's most prolific scorers, has scored 55 career points, which ranks eighth all-time. As a senior, she posted a team-best 20 points on seven goals - four game winners - and six assists, and was named the America East's Most Outstanding Player in the postseason conference tourney. In each of her four seasons, McClernon was named to an America East All-Conference team and as a senior she put an exclamation point on it with a first team selection.
Kelleher received her first postseason accolade from NEWISA as she was named to the All-New England Second Team. A steadying force in the midfield, Kelleher started every game for BU in 2009 and at season's end earned America East All-Conference First Team honors.
The Terriers (14-6-2) made their fifth-straight trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2009 after winning their seventh conference crown in a 4-0 win over Binghamton. The offense was the story of the season for the Terriers as they netted a conference-best 43 goals. Thirteen different Terriers scored and nine tallied multiple goals. In addition, BU was stingy on its home field and it owns an active 20-game winning streak at Nickerson Field.
