Durham, N.H. - Sparked by a hot-shooting performance from senior Kristi Dini, the Boston University women's basketball team (17-6, 11-0 AE) earned a 75-53 victory over New Hampshire (6-19, 4-7 AE) on Sunday afternoon, as the squad extends its unbeaten streak to 12 games. Dini led with a game-high 20 points and matched a career-best with six 3-pointers, while senior Jesyka Burks-Wiley added 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Dini, the Terriers' America East Player of the Game, was 7-for-13 from the field and following today's showing is now just five treys away from becoming the program's all-time leader in 3-pointers. Burks-Wiley also had a standout afternoon with her seventh double-double of the season. Junior Aly Hinton chipped in 11 points, while senior Christine Kinneary dished out seven assists and collected three steals.
BU, which won its 10th double-digit victory over a conference opponent, shot an impressive 46.6 percent from the field and was 45.0 percent from behind the arc. The Terriers scored 26 points in the paint and 13 off turnovers.
The contest started out with both teams battling back-and-forth, before the Wildcats took a 6-5 lead following a mid-range jumper from Rachel Fowler at 17:35. Burks-Wiley responded with a layup 20 seconds later to draw the Terriers to within one point and senior Amarachi Umez-Eronini gave BU its first lead of the game on two made free throws. Dini and Hinton nailed back-to-back treys as the Terriers continued on a 10-0 tear and give the visitors a 13-6 advantage at 14:14, forcing UNH into an early timeout.
The Wildcats came back with a 10-0 run of their own, drawing to within one point, 17-16, at 9:47 on a trey from Abigail LaRosa. Over the next six minutes, the Terriers and Wildcats traded baskets - exchanging leads four times - until Dini sank her third 3-pointer of the game, sparking a 15-3 run that put BU up by nine, 38-26, with 19 seconds remaining. UNH's Lauren Wells scored the stanza's last basket with 10 seconds left as BU enjoyed a 38-28 advantage at halftime.
In the second half, the Terriers extended their lead to 13 early on, and on a trey by Dini at 12:59, they took a commanding 16-point advantage, 52-36. Five minutes later, BU claimed its largest lead of the game when Dini nailed back-to-back 3-pointers to put UNH at a 23-point deficit, 66-43. The Wildcats closed the gap to 16, 69-53, on a 10-3 run, but BU scored the last three baskets to claim the 22-point victory.
BU will travel to Binghamton on Wednesday (Feb. 18) for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
